About the role

The Financial Planning Strategist delivers sophisticated financial and estate planning solutions for high-net-worth clients, typically with $5 million or more in assets under management. Leveraging deep technical expertise and a comprehensive understanding of client goals, this role partners closely with Wealth Advisors and collaborates with internal specialists and external Centers of Influence to provide holistic planning guidance. The Strategist conducts detailed analyses of financial, estate, and wealth transfer planning documents to identify opportunities and develop customized strategies aligned with clients' unique objectives. Through thoughtful consultation and actionable recommendations, the role helps clients navigate complex financial decisions while enhancing their overall wealth management experience.

Success in this position is measured by the ability to deliver meaningful client outcomes, strengthen client relationships and retention, support business development efforts, and contribute to the overall growth and success of Truist Wealth.

Responsibilities

  • Expertise: Remain knowledgeable, current, and effective on estate, tax, and planning trends across the Elements of Wealth. Analyze and apply planning techniques to activate positive outcomes for clients. Handle moderately complex situations at all levels of wealth.
  • Impact: Lead comprehensive wealth planning and strategy for families with assets under management at Truist of $5MM and above. Empower clients to take action and confidently make decisions to progress toward their financial goals. Recognize financial planning and implementation opportunities and communicate them to clients and Truist teammates.
  • Advice Process Excellence: Execute the financial planning and advice process: identify and prioritize goals, gather data, analyze current and potential courses of action, develop and present recommendations, partner for implementation, and monitor progress.
  • Process Adherence: Execute planning engagements in compliance with internal policies, procedures, and regulatory and legal guidelines. Identify at-risk situations and keep appropriate team members and management informed.
  • Technology: Maintain proficiency in planning software and company systems to analyze client needs and determine advantageous outcomes efficiently.
  • Advice Integration: Demonstrate a strong understanding of the advice and planning process and how it relates to, is implemented, and is explained to teammates, clients, and prospects. Integrate the Truist Wealth process seamlessly into advice and planning models.
  • Relevance: Actively engage in Advice and Planning Group and regional Wealth meetings. Share relevant experiences, insights, and topics. Be a thought leader and partner within supported markets.
  • Coaching/Team Development: Proactively engage in the growth and development of teammates within the Advice and Planning Group and across Truist Wealth. Collaborate, offer guidance, suggestions, and constructive feedback.
  • Productivity/Efficiency: Prioritize workflow and manage time, adhering to deadlines and allocating resources based on opportunity and complexity.
  • Networking: Create strong working relationships with internal partners and external Centers of Influence (attorneys, accountants, and other advisors). Represent Truist in civic, community, government, banking, and professional groups.
  • Specialization/Thought Leader: Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) and thought leader in a specific knowledge area within the Elements of Wealth related to complex financial planning concepts. Be a resource for the advice and planning group in that area.
  • Personal and Professional Development: Maintain and pursue professional credentials that enhance the ability to deliver superior client solutions. Assume additional responsibilities as requested and suggest enhancement ideas or process improvements aligned with Truist’s Purpose, Mission, and Values.
  • Travel: Work primarily in the assigned region; may also be utilized virtually or outside the assigned region based on the complexity of the client relationship.

Requirements

  • Advanced technical knowledge of financial planning issues, including income tax, investments, debt management, retirement planning, employee benefits, stock options, insurance, estate planning, and business planning.
  • Proven ability to get clients to take action.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Professional work experience with demonstrated competency in the financial industry.
  • Advanced communication and relationship skills.
  • Strong computer software and technical skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • At least one of the following: JD, LLM in Taxation, MS in Taxation, MSFS, ChFC, CFP, CPA, or comparable advanced knowledge course of study.
  • Advanced written, verbal, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Proven experience with group facilitation, presentations, and public speaking.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Seven years of experience in financial planning and wealth management or affiliated industries.
  • Experience advising high-net-worth (HNW) clients.
  • Ability to lead and manage projects relevant to the Advice and Planning Group.

Pay

Annual base salary for this position is $86,500 - $164,350.

Benefits

All regular teammates (not temporary or contingent workers) working 20 hours or more per week are eligible for benefits. Eligibility for specific benefits may vary by division.
