About the role

The Transitional Housing Program (THP) in Orting, Washington, is seeking a full-time Program Assistant to support clients, particularly those with chronic mental health and substance use disorders, during non-traditional business hours. The position is expected to end on September 30, 2026, with potential extension until September 30, 2029.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site after-hours support to clients by assisting with inquiries, questions, and concerns.
  • Interact with clients to provide encouragement and support in their treatment and case management plans.
  • Coordinate recreational activities and individual client chores.
  • Respond to emergency situations with tact, initiative, and good judgment.
  • Perform security checks and confiscate contraband items.
  • Assist with technical and clerical tasks and manage client room assignments.
  • More duties as outlined in the Position Description.

Qualifications

  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Two (2) years of full-time clerical experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Proficient in English language.
  • Ability to interact with difficult clients, maintain confidentiality, and solve problems.
  • Basic skill level in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and web-based applications.
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs.

Preferred/Desired Experience

  • Experience providing services to homeless individuals.
  • Understanding of social services and healthcare programs available to Veterans.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of DVA policies and procedures.
