This internship is approximately from January 2027 to June 2027 and will be located in Orlando, FL.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a Show Mechanical Engineering intern to join the team that helps dream and create many of the magical moments that our guests enjoy. The Show Systems team is responsible for delivering world-class Audio-Animatronic figures, show action equipment, and special effects throughout their full lifecycle. We partner with various teams to help deliver quality products, and our processes and tools help take us from concept design to production and installation.

  • Perform mechanical design under the direction of others
  • Use Surface Modeling techniques to design organic shells and/or skins for audio-animatronic figures
  • Work with production teams to track floor changes
  • Gain knowledge in the design of animatronic figures
  • Support various phases of the engineering process from concept development through final design, production, test, installation, and commissioning for a variety of theme park attractions

Our diverse needs call for many areas of specialization, including design engineering, tooling design, mechanical analysis, advanced 3D modeling, surface modeling, 3D printing, production processes, and material sciences. Candidates are not expected to have experience in each space but should be passionate about growing their skills in these areas as they relate to themed entertainment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical components and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with 3D design software, such as Solidworks, Rhino, Fusion 360, Geomagic DesignX, ZBrush, Maya, or NTopology
  • Experience with 3D Printing, 3D Scanning, Model Making, or Tooling Design
  • Experience with engineering analysis software, such as Ansys
  • Experience with specification and design of composite materials, silicones, or urethanes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated/proven strong leadership, technical, and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter with demonstrated initiative—able to handle multiple tasks and priorities
  • Digital sculpting experience
  • Portfolio showcasing work

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled as a Junior or higher attending an accredited college/university earning a degree majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field
  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree, taking at least one class at the time of application posting, OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or Disney College Program

  • Able to provide reliable transportation to/from work
  • Must be fully available for the duration of the internship

Pay

The pay rate for this role in Florida is $31.00 per hour for undergraduate students and $36.00 per hour for graduate-level students.
