WDI Show Mechanical Engineering Intern, Surface Development, Orlando, Spring 2027

This internship is approximately from January 2027 to June 2027 and will be located in Orlando, FL.

Responsibilities

As a Show Mechanical Engineering intern, you will support the Show Systems team, which delivers world-class Audio-Animatronic figures, show action equipment, and special effects throughout their full lifecycle. You may assist in various phases of the engineering process, from concept development through final design, production, test, installation, and commissioning for theme park attractions.

• Perform mechanical design under the direction of others
• Use Surface Modeling techniques to design organic shells and/or skins for audio-animatronic figures
• Work with production teams to track floor changes
• Gain knowledge in the design of animatronic figures

Requirements

• Basic knowledge of mechanical components and manufacturing processes
• Experience with 3D design software, such as Solidworks, Rhino, Fusion 360, Geomagic DesignX, ZBrush, Maya, or NTopology
• Experience with 3D Printing, 3D Scanning, Model Making, or Tooling Design
• Experience with engineering analysis software, such as Ansys
• Experience with specification and design of composite materials, silicones, or urethanes

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated strong leadership, technical, and interpersonal skills
• Self-starter with initiative—able to handle multiple tasks and priorities
• Digital sculpting experience
• Portfolio showcasing work

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as a Junior or higher in an accredited college/university earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must possess unrestricted work authorization
• Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or Disney College Program
• Able to provide reliable transportation to/from work
• Must be fully available for the duration of the internship

Pay

The pay rate for this role in Florida is $31.00 per hour for undergraduate students and $36.00 per hour for graduate-level students.
