About the Role

As a Food Service Representative, you'll provide a well-stocked, well-maintained department while delivering superior customer service. You'll prepare, package, and merchandise fresh products daily, ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

• Customer Service:
  • Takes orders from customers by telephone or in person
  • Answers customer questions and assists with product selections
  • Uses suggestive selling techniques to meet customer needs and build sales
• Food Service / Production:
  • Prepares, packages, and merchandises fresh products
  • Slices, labels, rotates, and culls products for poor quality
  • Assists with basic set-up and clean-up processes
• Food Safety:
  • Cleans and sanitizes display cases
  • Operates and maintains equipment properly
  • Complies with H-E-B food safety and sanitation standards
• Department-Specific Responsibilities:
  • Bakery:
    • Records production and shrink for planning
    • Assists with baking, frying, and decorating
    • Culls bakery products for poor quality or expiration
  • Deli:
    • Manages service counter customers
    • Uses ordering systems and inventory management tools
    • Prepares catering orders for customer pickup
    • Maintains and sanitizes deli slicers
  • Prepared Foods:
    • Serves and packages products at customer request
    • Educates customers on preparation/reheating instructions
    • Prepackages condiments for prepared food items
    • Cuts, slices, dices, and chops food for chefs

Qualifications & Key Requirements

• Age Requirement: 18+
• Work Experience:
  • Knowledge of computer systems and equipment (e.g., PC, scales, label machine)
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Reading, writing, planning, and organizing skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Education: HS Diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Licenses/Certifications:
  • Completion of Company Orientation
  • Food safety and sanitation training (upon hire)

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Work in a fast-paced retail environment, performing detailed tasks while interacting with customers. Physical demands vary by department:

• Bakery:
  • Constantly reach at waist, grasp
  • Frequently stand, walk, reach at shoulder, bend
  • Occasionally perform various movements and lifts up to 50 lbs, managing over 70 lbs
• Deli:
  • Constantly reach at waist, grasp
  • Frequently stand, walk, stoop
  • Occasionally perform various movements and lifts up to 55 lbs, managing over 65 lbs
