Waterworks Maintenance Mechanic / Operator
About the role
The City of Saint Charles Public Works Department is currently recruiting for the position of Waterworks Operator. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled technical work in the operation & maintenance of water treatment facilities and systems.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain all water treatment plant systems, pump stations, generators, gauges, pumps, filters, controls and equipment.
- Collect bacteriological and all other samples as required by MDNR.
- Maintain and operate all equipment, electrical systems, gauges, and charts in the treatment plant, pump stations, generators, pumps, filters, and other control systems; Record data concerning plant operations.
- Chart lab test results for trend analysis and maintain accurate records of analysis and test results; write reports as required.
- Collect samples and identify concentrations of chemical characteristics of water required in accordance with local, State and Federal requirements; gather and test water samples for reports as required.
- Perform quality control tests on lab equipment and lab analysis; chart tests results for trend analysis; evaluate procedures to assure accuracy of test results.
- Calibrate and modify instrumentation and control equipment including recorders and other water quality monitoring equipment.
- Mandatory attendance and participation in: Days & Nights rotating schedule as follows: Work Shifts: 6:30AM-6:30PM(AM) & 6:30PM-6:30AM(PM) & 4-hour Friday Shift- Saturday-PM, Sunday-PM, Wed-PM, Thurs-PM, 4hr-shift Fri(PM), Mon(PM) , Tues(PM), 4-hr shift Friday(PM), àRepeat )
- Assigned overtime as necessary to cover other shift openings.
Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by two (2) years post-secondary college or technical training in biology, environmental science, chemistry or a closely related field and two (2) years' experience in a utility, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Valid Missouri driver's license required.
- Department of Natural Resources Class C (B, or A) Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification Preferred. Minimum requirement of Class D Certification within 6 months with ability to obtain Class C or higher certification within 18 months of hire.

Pay
$31.38/hour for Class D Certification, $32.95/hour for Class B Certification, and $36.24/hour for Class C Certification.
