About the role
The Watershed Supervisor oversees all watershed maintenance activities within Veolia New Jersey land assets. This includes design and implementation of reforestation plans, adherence to forestry stewardship plans, interaction with customers for hazardous tree complaints, and management of work orders.
Responsibilities
- Assigns work to subordinates and ensures the availability of equipment needed to complete assignments.
- Maintain safe work practices, including Confined Space entry procedures, Lockout/Tagout, Hot Work Safety, work zone and water safety.
- Oversee contracted services on Watershed property and ensure service levels are "best in class."
- Manage property maintenance tasks such as landscape work, tree work, fence installations and repair, storm drain installations, service road and parking lot construction, and snow removal.
- Supervise shoreline rip-rap projects for erosion control and use of pumps for flood control.
- Support reservoir treatment activities.
- Maintain active liaison with several outside agencies and departments within the company.
- Coordinate and supervise the spraying of pesticides for insect, weed, and brush control.
- Support corporate recycling/green initiatives program.
- Interact with residents and community leaders regarding watershed issues.
- Oversee contractors' activities, frequently making on-site inspections to assure successful and timely completion of work.
- Provide assistance to other departments by supplying vehicles, pumps, gas mixers, portable generators, or other equipment as needed.
- Supervise the removal of brush and debris for surveying purposes, provide transportation for reservoir soundings, and install property monument markers.
- Assist in operations during times of exceptional system demands.
- Prepare and present training programs to subordinates on job duties and safety procedures.
- Serve on emergency duty to resolve operational problems, which may arise at any time.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or Forestry.
- Minimum of 10 years related work experience in forestry or project management.
- Experienced in land maintenance including tree work, excavation, brush clearing, road maintenance, and fence repairs.
- Competent in basic computing.
- Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Proficiency in ArcGIS.
- Water Treatment facility experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Maintain a NJDMV Boaters endorsement license.
- Certified Forester, Licensed Tree Care Expert or Arborist.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift 50 lbs.
- Sitting at a desk or conference table for long periods of time is required.
- Able to traverse rugged undeveloped terrain.
- Able to operate or ride on a boat.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $103,000 to $110,000 per year.
