Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

About the role

Thalle Construction Co., Inc. (“Thalle”) is currently seeking an experienced, committed, career-minded Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to be part of their growing team in Clayton, NC. Thalle, established in 1947, is a heavy civil construction company with a corporate office in Hillsborough, NC, and a regional office in Alvarado, Texas. Thalle has construction projects throughout the Southeast, Texas, and New Jersey with growth nationwide. Their diverse and expansive project scope includes dams, reservoirs, locks, DOT roadway construction and bridges, large diameter utilities, landfills, mass excavation, wastewater, and on-demand emergency services.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor treatment processes, equipment, and systems to ensure compliance with operational and regulatory requirements.
• Perform routine inspections of pumps, motors, blowers, valves, tanks, chemical feed systems, and related equipment.
• Maintain accurate logs, reports, and records.
• Conduct process sampling and testing as required.
• Troubleshoot operational issues and assist in identifying corrective actions.
• Perform preventive maintenance and coordinate repairs with maintenance personnel and contractors.
• Respond to alarms, equipment failures, and process upsets in a timely manner.
• Assist with startup, testing, and commissioning activities for new equipment and treatment systems.
• Support development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, environmental regulations, and operating procedures.
• Participate in operator training and continuing education programs.
• Work collaboratively with project teams, engineers, contractors, and management to support plant operations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 2 years of experience operating wastewater treatment facilities, water treatment facilities, industrial process systems, or similar operations preferred.
• Experience with pumps, motors, valves, blowers, chemical feed systems, and treatment processes preferred.
• Familiarity with SCADA systems and computerized control systems.
• Ability to read and interpret operating procedures, technical manuals, and process diagrams.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

• Wastewater Operator License preferred (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe).
