About the role

The Wastewater Technician is responsible for performing technical work at the F. Wayne Hill Water Resources Center. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 4:00pm, and may require overtime and weekend work on occasion.

Responsibilities

  • Ostara – Nutrient Recovery Building: FOG receiving and sampling, Gas to Energy Generator Operations, New Bio-Dryer Operations (coming online in 2028)
  • Level I: Assisting other water staff with various operator duties. This is the trainee level class and duties are clearly defined.
  • Level II: Performing technical, independent work in the area of water treatment. This class may serve as lead to lower-level classes.
  • Level III: Performing highly technical work in the area of water treatment. Works independently and serves as lead to lower-level staff. This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace.
  • Level IV: Serving as a lead worker in the water treatment plant; assigning and monitoring work; and providing training as needed. This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED; Valid driver's license.
  • Must obtain certification as Water/WW Operator within one year.
  • Three (3) months water plant experience; Georgia Class III certification/license in water; Valid driver's license.
  • Two years of water treatment or wastewater experience or, BS Degree in a related field or a current Class I certificate in another category and one year of water treatment or wastewater experience or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Georgia Class III certification/license in water; Valid driver's license.
  • Three years of water experience or a BS Degree in a related field or a current Class I certificate in another category and two years of water experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Georgia Class I certification/license in water (this will be mandatory for promotion to Water Shift Supervisor classification).
  • Valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Georgia Class I certification/license in water (this will be mandatory for promotion to Water Shift Supervisor classification).

Skills

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of water treatment processes and equipment.
  • Basic computer skills.

Benefits

Pay

  • Annual Salary: $43,336 (Level I)
  • Annual Salary: $49,000 - $78,399 (Level II)
  • Annual Salary: $53,286 - $85,258 (Level III)
  • Annual Salary: $57,950- $92,719 (Level IV)

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 4:00pm. May require overtime and weekend work on occasion.

Other Job Requirements/Information

This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing. This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.
