Water/Wastewater Process Project Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Support or lead process design for water and/or wastewater treatment facilities (new facilities and upgrades).
  • Develop Basis of Design content, technical memos, alternatives evaluations, hydraulic and process calculations.
  • Prepare and review PFDs, P&IDs, equipment sizing and selection criteria, and process control narratives (as applicable).
  • Cook with multi-discipline project teams to integrate process needs into civil/site, mechanical, structural, electrical, and controls design.
  • Support project delivery milestones (e.g., 30/60/90% design), internal QA/QC, and constructability reviews.
  • Prepare and review specifications and technical requirements (equipment, instrumentation, performance criteria).
  • Participate in client meetings, workshops, and coordination with regulators/owners.
  • Provide construction-phase support: submittal/RFI review, commissioning support, field observations, and startup assistance (as needed).
  • Support project management activities appropriate to level (scope, schedule, budget, risk, and change management).
  • Develop working relationships with individuals outside the organization to assist in identifying new business opportunities and strategic pursuits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • 5+ years of experience in environmental engineering and consulting industry, specifically in the wastewater treatment sector, with progressive responsibilities including marketing and business development.
  • Demonstrated technical capabilities in the planning and design of wastewater facilities.
  • Project management experience with projects involving multiple technical disciplines.
  • Strong writing skills (technical, marketing and business communications).

Qualifications

  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk up to 3-miles on uneven terrain.
  • Occasionally climb, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull light to moderate amounts of weight.
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds, with rare lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • May require occasional evenings and weekends with overtime expectations varying with workload.
  • May be required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to, flame resistant clothing, hard hat, and protective footwear.
  • May require occasional overnight stays out of town.
