About the role
The City of Auburn's Public Works department is seeking a Water Utility Engineer to join their team. This position involves learning and practicing administrative, planning, and management activities related to a municipal water system serving approximately 90,000 residents and businesses.
Responsibilities
- Reviews capital project plans, reports, and other documents for consistency with program/project goals, City Engineering Design and Construction Standards, and the System Plan.
- Develops and manages the water utility capital and engineering budgets.
- Closely works with water utility operations and maintenance staff.
- Provides review of development and capital projects.
- Ensures compliance with permit and regulatory requirements.
- Develops capital project charters for implementation by the Engineering capital group.
- Provides leadership and supervision to assigned staff.
- Keeps the City Engineer and Public Works Director informed of issues, challenges, and opportunities and provides recommended solutions and ideas.
- Implements the comprehensive water system plan policies and goals.
Requirements
- Minimum qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, five (5) years of civil engineering experience, valid state driver's license.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of water system planning and operations.
- Ability to work well with field and office staff from various divisions.
- Solid basic computer skills, especially in Windows and Outlook.
- Able to read and understand design standards, comprehensive plans, city code, water system plans, and federal and state regulatory requirements.
- Understanding of water system functions (supply, treatment, distribution) and basic hydraulics.
- Understanding of asset management principles and practices.
- Strong communication skills with an interest in collaborative work.
Skills
- EIT (Engineer in Training).
- Potable water utility engineering experience.
- PE certification within one year of placement.
- Washington State Department of Health Waterworks Operator Certification.
