Water Treatment Tech / Water Treatment Sr. Tech - Asset Management

About the Role

This is an entry-level position for Water Treatment Technicians and Senior Water Treatment Technicians. Under supervision, you will train on and perform various duties essential for the operation and maintenance of water treatment plants and related structures. The role involves learning physical and chemical conventional water treatment techniques to ensure a safe and high-quality water supply for the public. Additionally, you will maintain plant equipment and structures, including chemical feed/storage systems, piping, valves, basins, and reservoirs.

Interviews for this role will take place during the week of September 7th. Applications may also be considered for future full-time and Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions. LTE roles are project/program-based with predetermined end dates.

Responsibilities

• Perform safety-sensitive functions, including first response to emergencies and hazardous material spills.
• Wear respirators, including self-contained breathing apparatus, as required.
• Perform on-call duty, work shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as directed.
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions and report to multiple Denver Water treatment plants.
• Repair and maintain equipment such as pumps, compressors, chemical feed systems, electrical/hydraulic/pneumatic control equipment, chlorinators, valves, and gauges.
• Perform preventative maintenance, installation, fabrication, correction, and adjustment of plant equipment.
• Modify existing systems to accommodate plant needs.
• Cross-train and perform other duties as assigned.

Senior Technician Additional Responsibilities

• Utilize plumbing, mechanical, and construction skills alongside monitoring technology for preventative and predictive maintenance of treatment plant equipment, basins, piping, and chemical feed systems.
• Clean basins, piping, and chemical tanks for inspection and repairs.
• Lead and support internal maintenance projects, including planning, ordering parts, creating job plans, and completing projects.
• Maintain and update records in the Maximo asset management tracking system.
• Assist specialized trades personnel with major or specialized equipment repairs.
• Coordinate with contractors on plant upgrades.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and equipment operation and maintenance manuals (O&Ms) for troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades.
• Monitor systems for alarms, make adjustments, and provide appropriate responses.
• Operate and maintain chlorination equipment for pre-treatment, filtration, and disinfection systems.
• Maintain Risk Management Program (RMP) compliance through training, proper PPE use, and annual inspections, repairs, and replacements of chlorination equipment and instrumentation.
• Complete an initial 40-hour RMP training and meet annual 8-hour RMP training requirements.
• Calibrate chemical feed equipment and order/take delivery of bulk chemicals.
• Perform facility inspections of treatment processes, equipment, instrumentation, storage tanks, and grounds.
• Conduct visual inspections of facility processes, equipment, instrumentation, and grounds.
• Perform complex plant start-ups and shutdowns, including emergency shutdowns.
• Assess project risks, develop job hazard analyses (JHA), and adhere to Denver Water’s safety practices and policies.
• Assist in training new technicians and create/update SOPs and other training documents.
• Operate and maintain solids handling systems.

• For Senior Technicians: Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and equipment O&Ms.
