Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP (WRA) is a 110-year-old firm recognized for quality work and employees. We design infrastructure and buildings that improve the world and are seeking a Water Treatment Engineer to join our team.

About the role

This position involves planning, designing, and constructing municipal and industrial water treatment systems, including raw water and pre-treatment, filtration, post-filtration, chemical storage and feed, chemical treatment, and process mechanical, piping, and pumping systems. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to mentor junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assess municipal water treatment facilities and perform planning studies.
  • Develop engineering designs for water treatment plants and associated facilities.
  • Manage and oversee projects from concept through construction, coordinating with internal teams, subconsultants, and clients to meet milestones and schedules.
  • Prepare and monitor project budgets, schedules, and deliverables for timely and cost-effective completion.
  • Provide construction-phase services, including attending pre-bid and progress meetings, reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and resolving technical issues.
  • Serve as project design lead and coordinate technical tasks across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and support staff.
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations, and interviews.
  • Assist in preparing technical proposals and developing innovative design approaches.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 5–10 years of progressive experience in municipal water treatment, treatment technology, water quality, and process system planning, design, and construction alongside multidisciplinary teams.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Virginia or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and leadership abilities.
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without employment-based visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with water treatment plant hydraulic/process system modeling.

Pay

The expected compensation range for this position is $90,000 – $185,000. The specific compensation offered may vary based on factors including relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and experience.

This is an onsite, mid-level position.
