Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Chief Water Treatment Plant Operator for the water system(s).
  • Oversees all water supply activities including operation and maintenance of wells, pumps, purification equipment, reservoirs, motor control centers, automatic control valves and production meters.
  • Ensures the safety of all water supply operations including conducting routine safety meetings and job site inspections.
  • Maintains proper system pressures and disinfectant residuals throughout the distribution systems.
  • Ensures compliance with all operating permits, including SWRCB, AQMD and others.
  • Develops and implements preventive maintenance programs for all water supply facilities.
  • Conducts treatment costs analysis and calculates chemical dosage rates.
  • Analyzes groundwater levels and reports significant variances.
  • Develops and maintains an effective employee relations plan; supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel; recommends disciplinary action.
  • Supervises the administration of contracts and inspection for water supply maintenance and applicable capital programs.
  • Participates in capital budget planning, general rate case planning and long-term planning.
  • Responds to water supply and water quality customer inquiries.
  • Communicates with local government officials, company management and staff, customers, CPUC staff, and others.
  • Works under direction.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Seven (7) years of progressive water industry experience, of which at least four (4) years includes significant, advanced experience in water supply and distribution activities.
  • SWRCB Grade 2 Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification OR must obtain applicable SWRCB certification within 18 months if designated as chief operator.
  • SWRCB Grade 2 Water Distribution Operator Certification.
  • Ability to support complex projects.
  • Demonstrated writing skills.
  • Ability to select and evaluate employees; develop and train employees and provide performance feedback.
  • Familiar with basic PC applications.
  • Valid California driver’s license.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.

  • The compensation range provided is in compliance with state specific laws.
  • Multiple factors are used to determine the actual starting rate of pay for all of our positions, including specific skills, years of experience, education, certification(s), and other job related factors.

Work Environment

  • The primary work environment is in the field and at various water supply facilities.
  • Incumbent may be required to work evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
  • May include but not limited to standing, climbing, walking, lifting, bending, pulling and/or pushing, grasping, reaching, stooping and crouching, sitting, typing, walking, reading, writing, color determination, speaking and listening for extended periods of time.
