Water Service Representative

About the role

Works under direct supervision accomplishing all tasks associated with the installation, inspection, repair, general maintenance, and metering of the water distribution system and its related components. Operates and maintains a variety of heavy construction equipment. This position reports to the Water Distribution Superintendent.

Work environment

• Primary duties performed outdoors; may include working in adverse weather conditions
• Work may involve 24-hour availability during emergency situations, including overtime and call back situations as required
• Work in confined spaces and trench excavations as required

Distribution system components

• Perform installation of differing pipe types & sizes and connection / jointing applications, including the installation of mechanical joints and differing fittings
• Perform connections of correct brass components to the appropriate pipe type and size
• Perform connections of correct clamps and/or couplers to the appropriate pipe type and size
• Perform installation and connection of fire hydrant to the appropriate fitting and or pipe size; includes ability to disassemble fire hydrant to make necessary repairs to internal components and re-assemble; perform opening and closing of fire hydrant correctly
• Perform installation of connecting valves to the appropriate fitting and or pipe size; includes ability to disassemble valve to make necessary repairs to internal components and re-assemble; perform opening and closing of valve correctly
• Perform installation connection of a meter setter to the appropriate fitting and or pipe size; includes ability to disassemble meter setter to make necessary repairs to internal components and re-assemble
• Perform installation of waterline tap by varying methods related to pipe size
• Perform installation and connection of tracer wire

Equipment operation & maintenance

• Ability to operate backhoe; loading, excavating, and jack-hammering
