Water Resources Project Engineer

About the role

Our growth has created an exciting opportunity for a Water Resources Project Engineer to work closely with other water resources staff and project managers, performing water resources analysis and design activities primarily in support of municipal projects. The successful candidate will also assist in business development.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional services for water resources engineering projects, including planning, study, design, and construction administration.
• Perform analysis and planning related to floodplain and stormwater management facilities using XP/InfoSWMM, HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, and other water resource engineering software.
• Review stormwater management plans submitted to municipalities.
• Lead specific tasks of large projects or manage smaller projects, including performance of assigned project team members such as other Project Engineers, Engineers in Training, and Engineering Technicians.
• Maintain existing client relationships and pursue relationships with new clients.
• Assist the Water Resources Group Manager in identifying, evaluating, pursuing, and managing project opportunities.
• Provide quality control and quality assurance on all project work.
• Maintain budgets and schedules of project assignments.
• Coordinate, facilitate, and attend internal and external meetings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in water resources engineering.
• Demonstrated experience using SWMM software for urban stormwater management analysis and design.
• Experience with AutoCAD and ArcGIS software.
• Knowledge of Minnesota design standards and permitting.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to travel as required for project/client responsibilities and business development.
• Ability to work remotely and manage projects, clients, and project team members.
• Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected), which may include criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a water resources related field.
• Municipal or industrial wastewater treatment planning and design experience.
• Demonstrated experience using InfoSWMM software for urban stormwater management analysis and design.
• Project management experience.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer.
• Knowledge of project financials.

Physical Qualifications

• Ability to walk up to 3 miles on uneven terrain.
• Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
• Occasionally climb, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
• Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 20 pounds, rarely up to 50 pounds).
• Ability to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify causes of errors or defects.
• May require wearing Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), including flame-resistant clothing, hard hat, and protective footwear.
• May require occasional evenings and weekends, with overtime expectations varying by workload.
• May require travel to off-site locations, including occasional overnight stays.

Pay

Anticipated starting salary: $82,800–$101,200 per year, depending on education, experience, and skillset.
