Water Resources Intern - (Summer 2027)
About the role
We are seeking an intern to reside in our Chandler, AZ office. This role will support our local design staff with hands-on experience in water/wastewater infrastructure design, client interactions, and field work. As an intern, you’ll work alongside experienced practitioners, gaining practical skills and building your professional network.
Responsibilities
- Collect and organize data, prepare calculations, charts, and graphs
- Model using Excel or hydraulic modeling software
- Prepare drawings and backcheck drawing/technical memoranda corrections
- Write portions of technical memoranda and research technical information
- Assist with proposal and resume writing, client interactions, and presentations
- Take notes, conduct field investigations, and coordinate production of reports
- Support design documents (plans and specifications)
- Gain experience in water/wastewater infrastructure design and applicable laws/policies/regulations
- Participate in multi-disciplinary teams on water resources projects throughout Arizona and the western U.S.
- Assist with planning and design of municipal water/wastewater conveyance pipelines, lift stations, and stormwater drainage structures
- Support administration of construction phase activities
- Assist in development of plans, exhibits with CADD and GIS software, and permit applications
- Gather information for engineering reports and technical studies
- Prepare design calculations and project documentation
- Create and maintain electronic data files in compliance with Stantec and client requirements
- Manage drawing sets and revisions
- Perform occasional field work activities
Requirements
- Good attention to detail and willingness to assist full-time staff with various tasks
- Strong communication skills: verbal, business writing, electronic communications, and presentations
- Positive attitude with strong relationship-building skills
- Flexibility to learn new skills
- Currently enrolled in college/university and/or on summer break between semesters
Work Environment
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.
Pay
In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Final compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Part-time roles will be pro-rated based on agreed working hours per week.
