About The Position
The Water Plant Operator I is one of several water plant operator jobs within the water treatment plant for the City of Edmond. The water treatment operator helps with routine equipment/machinery adjustments, maintenance, occasionally supervising trainees. Employees must be willing and able to work shifts, holidays, and as part of a rotating on-call schedule to maintain 24/7/365 operations. Must be able to work 7:00 am to 5:00 pm with an 8 days on, 6 days off schedule.
Responsibilities
- Conduct process control sampling and testing via analytical laboratory work
- Perform bench-top Jar-Testing
- Monitor water quantity and distribution system pressure
- Monitor plant and well equipment and processes via sensors and tactile observation
- Monitor chemical use, adjust chemical dosages, and change chemical supplies (chlorine cylinders, polymer barrels, etc.)
- Obtain water operator licenses according to the following schedule (the City will assist with obtaining these licenses):
- A temporary license within 10 days
- A Class "D" within six months
- Both a "C" Water Works Operator and "C" Water Works Laboratory Operator license within 2 years
- Document operational activities via plant logs, computer records, and bench sheets
- Monitor backwash progress and efficiency via lab instrumentation
- Perform preventive and general maintenance tasks for plant processes, systems, equipment, and appurtenances
- Perform housekeeping tasks (like cleaning plant equipment, buildings, and grounds)
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 7 to 11 months of related experience and/or training
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
Necessary Skills/Abilities
- Good mathematical ability
- Ability and willingness to take continuous education classes to maintain or upgrade ODEQ licenses
- Ability and willingness to work shifts, holidays, and as part of a rotating on-call schedule to maintain 24/7/365 operations
- Ability to meet required physical standards for this position
- Ability to pass investigative background process, including a hearing test and drug screening

Starting Salary: $20.18
