Water Meter Technician

About the role

Provide service for the installation of water meters at utility locations. The role involves managing a daily schedule, working within a work order management system, removing old meters, and installing new meters for residential and commercial uses. High level of public interaction is required while working in an outdoor environment.

Responsibilities

• Removal of old water meter/register with the re-installation of a new water meter/register
• Performs water meter change outs per a specified manner
• Conduct work through a Work Order system
• Manage all inventory of new and old meters
• Work with utility personnel and utility consumers
• Responsible use of a company truck
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned or required

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Must complete a background check & drug screening
• Must have a valid driver's license
• Firm understanding of mechanical and water meter principles
• Computer skills including the ability to operate a PC, mobile handheld applications, email, and navigation systems
• Must maintain a professional manner and have strong communication skills to communicate effectively with the public, utility, and internal teams
• Willing and able to travel and stay overnight four to five weeks of the work schedule
• Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required: close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
• Water meter and register exchange experience is required
• On-the-job training and supervision will be provided prior to working independently
• Position requires travel; must be willing to travel/stay overnight as part of the work schedule

Schedule

Full Time, Monday–Friday, 1st shift hours.

Pay

$23.00 - $28.00 per hour (paid weekly).
