Wastewater Utility Worker I and II
Job Summary
The City of Laguna Beach is seeking motivated, skilled, and dependable individuals to join our Public Works Department as a Wastewater Utility Worker I or II. This recruitment may be used to fill vacancies at either level based on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
About the Role
This position involves helping maintain and protect the City’s wastewater collection system, lift stations, and related facilities that serve our community. The ideal candidate should be safety-conscious, reliable, and able to work outdoors and perform physically demanding tasks.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and operate the wastewater collection system
- Perform routine inspections and repairs of lift stations and related facilities
- Respond to emergencies and perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Experience:
- Wastewater Utility Worker I - Two (2) years of general maintenance or repair work.
- Wastewater Utility Worker II - Three years (3) years of general maintenance or repair work.
- Licenses/Certificates:
- Valid California Class C Driver's License and an acceptable driving record at time of hire.
- Class A or B Driver’s License required within 12 months of appointment for Wastewater Utility Worker I and at time of hire for Wastewater Utility Worker II.
- Wastewater Utility Worker II - A California Water Environmental Association (CWEA) Grade I Certification.
- Collection System Maintenance required within 12 months of appointment.
