Description Of Primary Responsibilities
- Ensuring the safe, efficient and economical operations of equipment in wastewater treatment plants to optimize process and protect public health
- Maintaining and upkeeping of equipment and operating devices
- Performing physical and chemical tests
- Providing leadership to WWTP Operators
- Interpreting data and making recommendations to improve plant equipment and processes
- Managing sewer pump stations (“SPS”)
- Troubleshooting plant equipment
- Maintaining and upkeeping of plant records
- Preparing operational reports

Professional & Technical Knowledge
- Understands different treatment processes
- Possesses knowledge of the practices and procedures used in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant, collection systems and the treatment and disposal of reuse water
- Possesses a thorough operating knowledge of two of the following processes: anaerobic and aerobic digestion, thickening, chemical and biological, chemical recovery, carbon regeneration, on-site disinfectant generation, oxidation ditch, ultra-violet disinfection, odor scrubbing, chlorination and de-chlorination, membrane and sand filtration or activated sludge
Technical Skills
- Ability to prepare basic correspondence and simple reports in Microsoft Word
- Ability to use Microsoft Excel to create tables and simple displays of information
- Ability to operate and maintain electrical controls and equipment, properly diagnose plant equipment and supervise their correction
- Ability to use computerized maintenance software used by the company
- Ability to review operational reports of equipment and laboratory analyses of wastewater and instruct others in operational practices and procedures relating to equipment
Licenses & Certifications
- Possesses a valid Driver's License
- Possess or able to obtain through reciprocity, a valid State of Hawaii Grade IV WWTP Operator License
Communications Skills
- Effectively interprets and communicates written and verbal opinions and extrapolations of information collected and synthesized/analyzed
- Resolves conflicts that may arise because of disagreements between employees, between employees and customers/clients or with the public, other legal entities or governmental authorities
- Compiles, analyzes and prepares information in an effective written form, including correspondence, reports, articles, or other documentation
Physical Demands
- Meets the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of these duties
- Able to be exposed to hazardous, unsanitary and unpleasant conditions
- Able to work shift, weekend and holiday schedules
- Able to perform heavy lifting up to 50 lbs and other manual work under adverse conditions
Pay Range
Pay Range: $35.98 - $44.01 per hour
An annual incentive bonus with an earning potential of 12% of base pay.
