About the role

The City of Colton is seeking a Senior Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to join our Wastewater Division. The position is under the direction of the Wastewater Utilities Supervisor and involves directing, coordinating, and supervising the activities and operations of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators.

Responsibilities

  • Directs, coordinates, and supervises the activities and operations of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators.
  • Schedules and assigns daily job assignments to operation teams.
  • Provides supervisory and technical support to the wastewater operation crews.
  • Acts as Wastewater Utilities Supervisor in their absence.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Three (3) years as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II and experience performing duties directly applicable to assigned area of responsibility is required.
  • Possession of a valid State of California Class “C” driver’s license is required.
  • Possession of a valid Grade III State of California Water Resources Control Board Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification is required.

Skills

  • Knowledge of principles and practices associated with wastewater treatment plant operations as related to primary, secondary and tertiary treatment.
  • Ability to read meters, gauges and control panels.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, loaders, vactor truck, and hand tools.
  • Ability to operate computer and applicable software.

Benefits

Depending on the needs of the City, the incumbent of this classification may be required to maintain additional licenses or certificates and continue education units. The incumbent may be required to work outside the traditional work schedule. May be subject to call out/call back or stand-by scheduling.

Pay

Cafeteria amount for the purchase of medical, dental and vision insurance is $1,625.00/mo effective August, 2024. Employees hired on or after July 1, 2017, shall have a maximum cap of $550 for cash in-lieu or for the difference between the medical insurance premium and the cafeteria dollar amount.

Schedule

Up to 80 hours per year of vacation accrued for 0 – 5 years of service. Up to 96 hours of sick leave (8 hours accrued monthly). 12 paid holidays (per calendar year). 20 floating holiday hours (per fiscal year).
