About the role

The Wastewater Operator III/IV is responsible for the daily operation, monitoring, and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations set by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NC DEQ).

Responsibilities

  • Acting ORC in the absence of the plant ORC.
  • Maintain proficiency in monitoring conditions and making required changes in operations to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and maximize plant efficiency.
  • Accurately record all operational parameters to document proper procedures and regulatory compliance.
  • Troubleshoot problems maintaining equipment in good order and minimizing downtime in operations.
  • Perform various maintenance functions essential to the upkeep of the grounds, equipment, and building.
  • Evaluate changing conditions and initiate treatment procedures to ensure continued effective plant operations.
  • Assist in tracking sufficient chemical and materials inventory to ensure continued plant operations.
  • Communicate with other team members and your supervisory team.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, superiors, and onsite contractors.
  • Serve as an on-call operator.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two plus years’ experience working in a water or wastewater treatment plant.
  • North Carolina Grade III or IV Biological Water Pollution Control System Operator Certification.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, superiors, and onsite contractors.
  • Ability to serve as an on-call operator.

Skills

Operators in this position must exercise independent judgement, must be able to make complex decisions, follow standard operating procedures, and meet the certification requirements.

Pay

Hiring Range: $23.59 – $29.48 Hourly
$49,057.00 – $61,321.00 Annually
