About the role
This is an entry-level position focused on loading biosolids and transporting them to disposal sites, while learning to perform technical operations, maintenance, and repair of Wastewater Treatment Plants and associated equipment. Incumbents work under close supervision of certified operators.
Responsibilities
- Conduct field inspections and collect wastewater samples
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment
- Conduct routine lab testing and operate gas chlorination equipment
- Operate heavy equipment (e.g., dump truck, forklifts, front-end loader, backhoe) and auto samplers
- Manage biosolids and reclaim water systems
- Read and record totalizers, complete logs, and document work orders
- Ensure all equipment operates within specified parameters
- Perform manual labor and utilize small hand/power tools
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid Arizona driver’s license
- Valid Arizona CDL Driver’s license (required)
- Experience driving a semi-tractor with manual transmission and end dump/side dump trailer within the last 7 years
- Experience operating heavy equipment (e.g., dump truck, forklifts, front-end loader, backhoe)
- Wastewater Operator Grade 1 certification (preferred) or ability to obtain within one year of hire
- Ability to work swing/night shifts after training, weekends, evenings, holidays, overtime, and emergency call-outs
- SCBA certification (required after hire)

Physical Requirements
- Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and repetitive motions
- Medium exertion: lifting 20–50 lbs. occasionally, 10–25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, and extreme temperatures
- Potential contact with blood and other bodily fluids
Pay
$24.15 – $33.82 hourly
