About the role
The Wastewater Division of the City of Canby Public Works Department has an exciting career opportunity for a Wastewater Maintenance Technician.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and operate the City’s wastewater treatment plant equipment and facilities under the guidance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor.
- Perform preventive maintenance, repair equipment, troubleshoot electrical issues, calibrate instruments, manage inventory of critical parts, and maintain the computerized maintenance management system.
- Monitor, understand, and maintain Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system (SCADA).
- Complete and maintain electronic maintenance records, checklists, and daily logs.
- Update the parts inventory and order parts as needed.
- Work with contractors on maintenance work performed at the plant and pump stations.
- Work with operations staff on appropriate maintenance procedures.
- Fill in as a wastewater treatment plant operator as needed; train to recognize plant status, troubleshoot and perform corrective actions of the plant operations to ensure discharged water quality meets or exceeds the standards of EPA and the State of Oregon.
- Provide assistance to other staff as workload and staffing levels dictate.
- Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
- Comply with safety requirements of the position and actively promote safe work practices.
- May be required to respond to after-hours emergencies and other work-related situations.
- May be required to fill in as a wastewater treatment plant operator as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
- 4 years of progressive technical experience and training that provides the applicable advanced journey level knowledge and skills directly related to Wastewater and/or industrial process equipment that includes two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of pumps and pump motors
- Possession of a State of Oregon Journey Level Certificate in a work-related trade such as millwright, maintenance mechanic, or welder, or a combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the job as those listed above may be considered.
- Oregon Grade I or provisional Grade I Wastewater Treatment Operator Certificate or ability to obtain within 18 months.
- Valid Oregon Driver’s license required.
Qualifications
- Ability to use tools and equipment utilized in grounds maintenance such as shovels, rakes, trimmers, edgers, mowers, and other misc. hand power tools.
- Requires a working knowledge of tools used in the general diagnostic and repair of pumps, motors, and control panels such as screw drivers, wrenches, feeler gauges, wheel pullers, micrometers, general purpose electrical testers etc.
- Reading and understanding general assembly and maintenance directions.
- Redirect flows for maintenance or operations during plant repairs or upgrades.
- Ability to obtain Oregon Grade I Wastewater Operator Certificate or Grade I Wastewater Treatment Operator Certificate within 18 months.
- Knowledge of operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant.
- Ability to receive work direction and convey clear precise information related to equipment performance and process control.
- Basic Computer skills.
