Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Auxiliary Services to maintain inventory of merchandise; receive and process orders, update and maintain online store, initiate and follow-up on quality issues within 2 days of receipt, process invoices to accounts payable, order supplies and resale supplies.
  • Supervise and train student employees; ensure adherence to high standards of customer service, greet and interact with customers and establish work ethics. Perform annual evaluations.
  • Assist with creating strong visual merchandising displays; check floor for product needs and stock, maintain appearance and cleanliness of store.
  • Cashier: cover register shifts as needed and pop-up events, perform monthly inventory of safe and registers, assist with month and year-end procedures.
  • Utilize technology, streamline processes to expedite work; use of excel, word, and email, hotspots and troubleshooting internet glitches. Familiar with Facebook and Instagram for summer marketing.
  • Aid in other areas of Auxiliary Services to cover student absences, vacation, high volume, or seasonal times.
  • Care for academic and event support; commencement products, including cap & gown, and regalia rental, course materials for post-secondary for high school students.
  • Assist in evaluating trends; customer buying trends, market trends and collegiate trends, and seasonal trends for purchasing purposes.
  • Represent Wartburg favorably in all internal and external stakeholders, perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Preferred knowledge equivalent to an associate's degree in business, accounting, marketing or a related field along with a minimum of 3 years of retail operations or 5 or more years of retail experience, including cash management and inventory control or a satisfactory combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience or training that demonstrates the knowledge.
  • Duties frequently require standing, walking, sitting, and the ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Broad knowledge of POS applications, proficient with windows.
  • Attention to detail, organization, strong communication; both verbal and written.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and demonstrate initiative.

Supervision

Employee reports to the Director of Auxiliary Services and is expected to proactively collaborate with colleagues in the Business Office, President's office, Registrar, and Marketing & Communications. Candidate is a self-starter and must pursue completion of tasks, prioritize their own work and resolve unusual incidents that arise.
