About the role
The Warrants Technician I prepares and processes Failure to Appear (FTA) warrants and other warrants issued by the municipal court. Responsibilities include preparing records for entry into the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC), validating and verifying active warrants, coordinating communications for the removal and cancellation of FTA warrants, running criminal and driver histories via the GCIC database, and performing administrative and clerical functions related to warrants or other court operations.
Responsibilities
- Run FTA reports via the court case management system (CMS) and identify FTA cases.
- Generate warrants for all outstanding FTA cases.
- Scan and docket signed warrants into the CMS.
- Add appropriate alerts to FTA cases via CMS.
- Run Driver’s Query & Inquiry (CCH and FBI III files) on all FTA warrants.
- Run a daily tickler code in CMS to search for warrants that are no longer active.
- Add a docket code to all cases to be placed on GCIC.
- Scan cancellations or located persons into the CMS docket history.
- Modify, clear, cancel, and validate all FTA warrants entered in GCIC monthly.
- File and maintain all warrants (active, inactive, served, and cleared).
- Maintain all supporting warrant documents, including criminal history and drivers’ history records.
- Research old warrant cases for payment or balance verification.
- Answer hits on FTA warrants in a timely manner (10 minutes or 1 hour).
- Place a locate/detainer on a subject when necessary.
- Fax necessary documents to jail, warrant, citation, and YQ units.
- Send AM messages to other agencies when necessary.
- Contact corrections or fugitive departments for local pickup.
- Scan all documents into the CMS.
- Fingerprint defendants, new hires, and vendors.
- Maintain GCIC/NCIC certification.
- Acquire a judge’s signature for all FTA warrants.
- Complete the FTA wanted notice.
- Coordinate with the Fugitive Unit for pickups and communicate with ACIC and other outside agencies.
- Work weekends, holidays, and shift work as required.
- Report during inclement weather.
- Adapt to policy and procedural changes.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Three (3) years of professional work experience, preferably in a judicial, law enforcement, or jail environment, or a college degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.
- GCIC/NCIC certifications.
- Fingerprinting required as part of pre-employment onboarding.
- Compliance with CJIS Security Policy v5-9-5.
Skills
- Basic knowledge of court policies and procedures, City of Atlanta and State codes, ordinances, and laws.
- Thorough knowledge of the organization, functions, jurisdiction, and authority of the court.
- Basic knowledge of Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) rules and regulations.
- Ability to operate GCIC to run criminal and drivers’ history records.
- Ability to read and interpret criminal and driver’s history records.
- Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
- Ability to compile, organize, prepare, and maintain records effectively according to court operations and regulations.
- Knowledge of terminology used within the court system.
- Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with judges, law enforcement officers, court officials, attorneys, court employees, and the general public.
- Ability to operate a computer and use automated case management systems for data input, retrieval, and tracking.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including shift work.
- Ability to work under stress related to duties requiring constant attention to detail and tight deadlines.
Pay
Starting salary: $44,353 annually
Schedule
- 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
- 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Work Environment
Must be able to work in a shared space. Sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amounts of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
