Warehouse Worker - Distribution Services
About the Role
The Warehouse Worker performs work involving the collecting, sorting, and delivering of campus mail, United States Postal Service mail, residence hall mail, courier packages, freight, and other materials for the campus. The position also performs cashiering functions and assists with seasonal storage programs.
This role is part of Distribution Services within Strategic Business Services, a department responsible for mail, parcel, and freight distribution for the campus, including mail and parcel distribution for on-campus student residents.
Responsibilities
- Collect, sort, and deliver campus mail, USPS mail, residence hall mail, courier packages, freight, and other materials.
- Perform cashiering functions and assist with seasonal storage programs.
- Apply warehouse and mail handling practices, including safety protocols, item identification, warehouse procedures, and postal regulations.
- Identify and document damages and short counts.
- Maintain receiving and delivery records using handheld scanners and desktop workstations.
- Operate powered material handling equipment safely and teach safe methods for moving heavy materials.
- Provide high-level customer service with diplomacy and professionalism.
- Handle sensitive interpersonal situations with tact and resolve conflicts effectively.
- Organize, plan, and provide lead work direction to student employees.
Requirements
- One year of experience assisting in the receipt, storage, or issuance of materials from a centralized stockroom or warehouse.
- Experience operating forklift trucks or similar power-operated materials handling equipment.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one by the date of hire.
- Obtain Cal Poly Defensive and Risk Management Forklift Training Operation Class permit within the first three months of employment.
- General knowledge of warehouse and mail handling practices, including safety, postal regulations, and record-keeping.
- Ability to organize, plan, and provide lead work direction to others.
Pay
Anticipated Hiring Range: $44,964 - $52,680 per year.
Classification Range: $41,532 - $57,024 per year.
Factors determining compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, certifications, and organizational needs.
