About the Role

Under general supervision, performs full spectrum warehousing, distribution, and materials logistics functions for Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Material Control Division.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all functions related to management of material assets, including stocking, issuing, shipping, receiving, storage, organization, expediting, planning, monitoring, asset security, placing, picking, counting, packaging, inspection, rotation, coordination, movement, transport/delivery, and tracking of materials, parts, and products from/to various facilities and remote locations on a scheduled and non-scheduled basis.
  • Coordinates shipping and receiving requirements with inbound/outbound freight providers, vendors, contractors, DART accounting, procurement, and internal sections.
  • Participates in assembling, packing, crating, and shipping outgoing merchandise or material; ensures shipments agree with packing lists, bills of lading, and actual orders; rejects and reports damaged materials and variances.
  • Loads/unloads merchandise or material from transport vehicles; coordinates incoming material to various user groups/customers.
  • Verifies and reports the correctness and condition of data, equipment, and materials.
  • Prepares, maintains, and distributes detailed records accurately documenting material transactions; researches and resolves inventory discrepancies.
  • Assists section supervisors to lead, train, plan, schedule, assign, and monitor the quantity and quality of work performed by section personnel.
  • Ensures duties are performed in accordance with established standards, policies, procedures, instructions, and safety/security regulations.
  • Maintains accuracy of the locator system, monitors reorder points, maintains stock levels, and ensures stock is marked, tagged, or labeled according to procedure.
  • Ensures performance, quality, timeliness, accuracy, safety, security, and customer service standards are met; makes recommendations to improve warehouse operations and customer service.
  • Resolves customer service concerns within existing procedures/policies and reports issues as needed.
  • Expedites internal material requirements and supports special programs and projects (e.g., maintenance campaigns, DART events, auctions, cyclical inventories).
  • Assists the Administration & Planning Section and performs administrative/clerical duties associated with section operations (e.g., computer data input).
  • Rotates between warehouses to maintain a complete understanding of all material management equipment and site-specific practices, including vertical and bulk storage equipment, scanners, printers, delivery vehicles, warehouse machinery, scales, and banding equipment.
  • Acquires and maintains familiarity with all stocked materials, their general application/function, associated parts manuals, and automated support systems.
  • Inspects work areas to assess the condition of facilities, equipment, and tools; corrects and reports safety hazards.
  • Performs housekeeping and general maintenance of all section areas.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED plus one (1) year of technical, vocational, or commercial training.
  • Experience in warehousing, shipping, receiving, inventory control, distribution, or logistics environment preferred but not required.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with no DWI conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, no more than one (1) DWI on record, and no more than two (2) moving violations within the last twenty-four (24) consecutive months to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
  • Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination, including a drug screen, to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
  • Proficiency in PC software applications, including Microsoft Office or related software.
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment such as stand-up and sit-down forklifts, electric pallet jacks, cherry pickers, etc.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability to work variable hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in crowded and tight spaces.
  • Proficiency in basic math (e.g., addition, subtraction, multiplication).
