About the role

Scholastic Reading Events are in-person experiences that empower kids to discover books, bringing entire communities together in schools through 110,000 unique pop-up shops annually. As a Warehouse Supervisor, you will support the Operations Manager in planning, scheduling, and executing day-to-day warehouse activities for the Book Fair Organization. You will evaluate and assess the team to ensure adherence to company standards, optimal performance, and a commitment to Scholastic’s mission of encouraging reading and promoting lifelong learning.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the hiring and recruiting process for warehouse staff, including conducting orientation for newly hired associates and assigning mentors.
  • Supervise, develop, and train all warehouse personnel to maintain high morale, motivation, and productivity for maximum retention.
  • Evaluate and document warehouse associates’ job performances, conduct performance appraisals, recommend salary changes, and set performance goals in conjunction with the Branch Manager.
  • Accurately expedite school re-orders in a timely manner and oversee UPS/ground shipping.
  • Adhere to local, State, and Federal regulations, including OSHA, DOT, and EEOC.
  • Conduct monthly safety meetings to minimize accidents and promote a wellness attitude among staff.
  • Investigate job-related incidents (Workers’ Compensation) and file reports with the Branch Manager.
  • Schedule staff, maintain attendance records, and assist in labor hours tracking (actual vs. budget).
  • Assist the Branch Manager in using the production planning system and managing Branch P&L’s.
  • Oversee the closing of fairs, ensuring all cases, displays, and boxes are staged and properly labeled.
  • Prepare daily packing schedules by reviewing turnovers, checking labels, and communicating packing instructions.
  • Oversee fair packing production, replenishment of stock, unloading of trucks, and packing/display of product according to schematics to meet customer needs.
  • Reset picking lines seasonally to coordinate with corporate schematics.
  • Monitor inventory levels, inform management of status, and assist with physical inventory counts and warehouse sales.
  • Train staff on the use of scanners for the Book Fairs inventory system.
  • Meet, greet, and assist customers during open houses and warehouse sales in a courteous manner.
  • Ensure proper use of warehouse equipment/tools to increase productivity, efficiency, and safety; report unsafe conditions or injuries.
  • Handle all merchandise carefully to avoid damage, bending, or tearing, and use proper techniques for lifting, packing, and handling heavy objects.
  • Operate forklifts during peak business periods if certified (must be at least 18 years of age).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate required; College Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Prior experience with a sales/service distribution organization preferred.
  • Ability to analyze, develop, initiate, and implement plans and strategies to achieve goals.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office, email, and internet navigation.
  • Ability to utilize scanner systems effectively with minimal errors.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and direct associates.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet critical deadlines.
  • Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs., push/pull up to 300 lbs., and climb ladders without assistance.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Strong team player with the ability to get along with co-workers.
  • Good verbal/written communication skills, basic math skills, and ability to read.
  • Forklift experience a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle report (if operating a company vehicle).
