About the Role

This position supervises warehouse and distribution activities to promote safe, efficient, and optimal utilization of facilities, equipment, and personnel. Ensures work standards are met to receive, put away, and ship merchandise accurately and effectively. Maintains warehouse integrity and security while meeting productivity goals.

Responsibilities

  • Send and receive positive communications with colleagues and management.
  • Monitor receiving and shipping procedures to ensure efficient unloading, receiving, put-away, selection, and loading of products for customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate and reinforce policies and procedures (e.g., Coaching Maximizing Performance Program, Preferred Work Methods, Best Business Practices) to train colleagues in safety, job knowledge, and performance standards.
  • Plan and schedule staffing to cover vacations, holidays, workers' compensation, and shift fill-ins, coordinating personnel for all warehousing activities.
  • Monitor workflow, balance staff across work areas, and track productivity using the labor management system.
  • Evaluate colleagues' work, provide ongoing coaching, reward high performance, and address poor performance.
  • Reduce overtime using the Daily Planning Tool spreadsheet.
  • Collaborate with Transportation to maximize receiving and shipping flow.
  • Work with Inventory Control and Operations Systems to maintain product integrity, proper storage, and rotation.
  • Foster a culture of colleague involvement, quality work, and leadership for mutual benefit.
  • Maintain accurate and timely colleague records, evaluations, and documentation.
  • Act as a problem solver for colleague relations and departmental needs.
  • Work with Inventory Control to minimize warehouse shrink (product loss).
  • Ensure the appearance, maintenance, and security of the warehouse and equipment.
  • Enforce safety rules to eliminate accidents and injuries; participate in safety committees and complete coach cards weekly.
  • Conduct stay interviews with direct reports and follow up on colleague feedback.
  • Review and approve direct reports' time entries for accuracy and payroll deadlines.
  • Ensure safe and professional use of warehouse computers and RF equipment.
  • Comply with company policies (e.g., attendance, Code of Business Conduct & Ethics, Associate Handbook).
  • Ensure compliance with state/federal laws and regulations (e.g., OSHA, HACCP).
  • Support food safety policies, standard operating procedures, and prerequisite programs as defined in the Food Safety Commitment documentation.
  • Accept additional responsibilities or special projects as requested.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise 15–25 colleagues.
  • Carry out supervisory duties in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training colleagues.
  • Plan, assign, and direct work; evaluate performance; reward and coach subordinates.
  • Manage confidential information effectively.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Internal non-exempt candidates must be in a lead position or have prior lead/supervisory experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize work, analyze numerical data, follow policies/procedures, and solve problems.
  • Proficiency in multi-tasking with frequent interruptions.
  • Basic computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Must pass a functional capacity test.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Three to five years of warehouse-related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of a supervisory training program required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents, professional journals, technical procedures, or regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including ability to compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt solutions to varying complexities.
  • Certification on material handling equipment required (or ability to obtain certification).

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands/fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, handle objects, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, occasionally 41–50 pounds, and seldom 51–100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Warehouse environment with exposure to varying temperatures (freezer, cooler, dry areas).
  • Regular exposure to fast-moving material handling equipment, mechanical equipment, and vehicle emissions.
  • Frequent exposure to wet/humid conditions, contained toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions.
  • Loud noise levels typical of a warehouse setting.

Schedule

This is a full-time position requiring flexibility in scheduling, including shift work (days or nights), weekdays, weekends, and some holidays. Work hours may vary based on departmental needs.

Travel

Some travel may be required to support business needs.
