About the role

As a Warehouse Supervisor, you will guide, direct, and coach warehouse employees to meet on-time delivery standards with minimal errors. You will provide work direction and leadership within the guidelines of standard work rules and employment policies, overseeing day-to-day operations, making personnel changes, and addressing performance, behavior, and policy compliance.

This position works Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM, with overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and schedules the warehouse team to meet customer demands while achieving warehouse goals at the required level of quality. (30%)
  • Communicates with staff to ensure smooth flow of information and product, and with the Warehouse Manager to modify and improve efficiency.
  • Monitors warehouse processes, proactively identifies and addresses barriers, and troubleshoots problems through root cause analysis.
  • Fosters collaboration with other departments to drive better working relations.
  • Leads, motivates, and directs employees using effective performance management techniques, including establishing expectations and goals, providing recognition and feedback, and addressing performance problems. (30%)
  • Coaches, encourages, and develops employees according to their unique interests and strengths, empowering them to take responsibility for their careers and performance.
  • Delegates responsibility, expects accountability, and fosters teamwork and unity among department members and the organization.
  • Manages the warehouse through the Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle of the Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI) to support continuous improvement. (20%)
  • Trains employees on Lean programs, measures and reports results to leadership regularly.
  • Exemplifies and enforces the highest safety standards, ensuring adherence to all Simpson policies and procedures. (10%)
  • Reviews and edits employee timecards, approves or denies time-off requests, and collaborates with Human Resources for staffing needs, including conducting first-round interviews.
  • Develops or modifies training procedures and tracks all training.
  • Monitors, manages, and prioritizes shipping and receiving activities to ensure goals are met and standards upheld. (10%)
  • Supports Simpson’s Lead program, approves work orders, monitors backorders, and manages on-site raw materials.
  • Participates in annual inventories.

Requirements

  • 1-year certificate from college or technical school; or related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • College degree or technical school certificate in Business preferred.
  • 5 years of related warehouse experience and/or training.
  • 2 years of experience leading or managing others.
  • Previous leadership experience in a unionized manufacturing or warehouse environment.

Skills

  • Warehouse and Logistics: Knowledge of logistics, warehouse processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing the effective distribution of goods.
  • Active Listening: Ability to give full attention to others, understand points being made, ask appropriate questions, and avoid interrupting.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or approaches to problems.
  • Monitoring: Ability to assess performance (own and others’) to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Written Comprehension: Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Microsoft Office: Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook for work-related tasks.
  • Oral Comprehension: Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words.
  • Process Control Analysis: Ability to conduct tests and inspections of processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of waste elimination, continuous improvement, S5, Kaizen, Quality Built-In, JIT, Kanban, and levelized production.
  • Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.

Pay

$71,900 - $115,000 per year.

Schedule

Full-time, exempt position. Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM, with overtime as needed. Less than 5% domestic travel required.

Location

Enfield, CT. Relocation is not available for this position.

  • Work Environment:
    • Regularly works around moving mechanical parts with a loud noise level.
    • May risk exposure to dust, heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions.
    • Operates in an office environment with standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers/scanners.
