The Warehouse Operator position is an individual contributor position who supports the Small Parts department reporting to the Shift Supervisor. This role is responsible for the accurate handling, movement, and documentation of materials and products within a manufacturing environment to ensure efficient production flow and inventory accuracy by using computers; stationary and hand held to be used throughout the shift daily. Responds to direct two-way radio requests from departments, using good judgment in prioritizing calls. Must use good judgment in inspection of loads for damage and proper handling. May be required to assist with functions in other department areas and may work irregular hours. Maintains good housekeeping and exercises precautions for safety operation of all equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Moves and documents materials/products to maintain inventory accuracy
  • Stores and labels physical steel inventory to maintain accuracy
  • Interprets production and shipping orders to ensure proper material handling
  • Performs inventory cycle counts and reconciles discrepancies
  • Maintains and cares for tools and equipment
  • Fulfills tasks as directed by supervisors and management
  • Makes decisions regarding moving, receiving and storing material
  • Resolves discrepancies
  • Enters data and completes required reports in a timely fashion
  • Uses computer skills and familiar with IFS and Zebra capabilities with handheld materials and desktop computers
  • Receives-in inbound inventory for current and upcoming orders
  • Affords assistance when available for material staging
  • Has legible writing for communication on materials and BOLs (Bill of Ladings)
  • Performs daily crane inspections

  • Able to spend 90% of workday standing or walking, and 10% stooping, bending, sitting and squatting

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate

  • Proficient with computers
  • Communicate problems or needs to departmental/shift supervision

One (1) Year of Previous Experience Operating a Forklift in a Manufacturing/Outside Environment

  • Experience in moving materials around a warehouse and/or storage yard
  • Prior experience with computers in inventory management systems

Job Training Skill Development

  • Must be able to perform satisfactorily all functions of this position within 6 months of starting this position
  • Must obtain valid Valmont forklift Operator License for all forklifts used in the position

Decision Making

  • The decisions the person in this position makes affects inventory accuracy and availability of material for production
  • The incumbent is responsible for prioritizing the workload to avoid lost time to all departments
  • Utilizes product mix in location assuring proper rotation of stored materials
  • Reviews space allocations and material flow to maximize utilization of space available
  • Able to apply creativity to solve the problems encountered within the scope of their activity

Effort

  • Operates equipment 90% of the time
  • Lifts, pushes, and carries material
  • Standing, stooping, bending, sitting and squatting 100% of the day
