About the role
The Warehouse Operational Technology Specialist provides technical expertise and guidance to regional and divisional operations management teams regarding refrigeration, automation, and maintenance systems. In collaboration with our refrigeration and engineering teams, this role contributes to the development, design, installation, and maintenance of solutions across the distribution network. Additionally, the Specialist supports North American intralogistics initiatives by helping implement automation systems, leveraging practical experience with automated material handling systems, equipment operations, control methodologies, and software systems.
Responsibilities
- Provides technical solutions and recommendations to warehouse and maintenance management teams.
- Led and advises on the support of automation and refrigeration systems, including installation, commissioning, and long-term maintenance.
- Provides technical support to divisions as needed on an on-call basis.
- Interprets complex issues and communicates them effectively to management and teams to offer practical solutions and recommendations.
- Provides direction to team members regarding projects, operations, and best practices.
- Provides budgetary information as needed for divisional Annual Operating Plan (AOP) development.
- Provides budget performance data for technical and systems projects.
- Provides consultation, reporting, and recommendations to all levels of management regarding system health, improvements, and operations.
- Supports and implements the technology roadmap associated with warehouse facilities, maintenance, and automation.
- Captures system changes, directs system usage, and approves third-party add-ons.
- Aids and supports the North American (NA) Intralogistics Manager with implementing solutions across distribution centers (DCs).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in Industrial Technology (or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of this position).
- 5 years of experience in industrial maintenance is highly preferred.
- A High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- An Associate degree in Industrial Technology, Ammonia Refrigeration, or a related field is preferred (equivalent experience will be considered).
- Specialized post-secondary training in PLCs, SQL, and Graphical HMI systems is preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of industrial systems—including PLC/PC microprocessor-based controls, Automated Material Handling (AMH), electrical distribution, hydraulics, electronics, database applications, and mechanical servicing—and their integration with refrigeration and facility systems.
- Strong technical and mathematical problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex issues, interpret technical data (such as trend charts and calculation tables), and recommend practical solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports, manuals, and business correspondence, interpret complex instructions and diagrams, and effectively present info to diverse audiences.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with a proven ability to manage workloads, schedules, and multiple projects independently while working accurately and collaboratively with teams to deliver results.
