About the role

The Material Handler II plays a crucial part in our warehouse and distribution center, ensuring materials are efficiently handled, stored, and transported. This role involves operating various material handling equipment, assisting in inventory management, and maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment to transport materials to designated areas within the warehouse.
  • Load and unload materials from trucks, trailers, and other vehicles, ensuring accurate and safe movement of goods.
  • Organize, stock, and store materials in proper locations, following company procedures for material storage and inventory control.
  • Assist in conducting regular inventory checks and updates, ensuring accurate stock counts and data entry into the inventory management system.
  • Pick, pack, and prepare materials for shipping and delivery to production or external clients as required.
  • Collaborate with other team members, supervisors, and departments to meet production schedules and ensure timely delivery of materials.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area, ensuring that materials are handled safely and in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Perform basic quality checks on materials and products to ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Absorb and label materials, ensuring all relevant information is accurate and up to date.
  • Report any damaged or defective materials to supervisors for resolution.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some post-secondary education or training is a plus.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in material handling or warehouse operations.
  • Proficient in the use of material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.).
  • Basic knowledge of inventory control systems and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in material handling and inventory management.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy materials (up to 50 pounds) regularly.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and ability to follow workplace safety procedures.
  • Forklift certification preferred (or the ability to obtain certification within a specified time frame).
  • Ability to pass an onsite PIE assessment.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS).
  • Experience with barcoding or RFID technologies.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
  • Occasional work in outdoor or cold storage areas.
