About the role
The Warehouse Engineering Manager is responsible for optimizing the intersection between the physical warehouse and the system-configured warehouse to improve safety, productivity, capacity, space utilization, and operating cost. This hands-on technical leadership role leads warehouse layout, slotting, labor standards governance, storage configuration, warehouse process routings, work-zone design, pick-path optimization, and related operational master data across assigned distribution facilities. The role also provides technical direction and development to junior OPEX team members.
Responsibilities
- Leads warehouse engineering activities across assigned distribution facilities, including layout, slotting, material flow, storage configuration, and capacity optimization.
- Optimizes pick paths, putaway zones, work zones, racking configurations, and storage density to improve productivity, travel, replenishment activity, and space utilization.
- Manages labor standards governance, including standards maintenance, validation, and performance analysis.
- Maintains accurate AutoCAD layouts and develops warehouse designs supporting current operations and future capacity requirements.
- Monitors changes in product mix, volume, and velocity and adjusts warehouse configuration and operating parameters accordingly.
- Oversees new-part setup, warehouse process routings, and related operational master data to maintain alignment between physical operations and system configuration.
- Develops capacity, labor, throughput, productivity, and space-utilization analyses to identify constraints and improvement opportunities.
- Leads structured problem-solving and corrective-action efforts using methods such as 8D, 5 Why, PDCA, and root-cause analysis.
- Develops technical recommendations, scopes, and business cases for warehouse improvements and capital needs.
- Supports and implements projects involving warehouse layout, storage systems, material flow, automation, routing, slotting, and workflow changes.
- Partners with Operations and cross-functional teams to implement improvements and validate sustained results.
- Establishes and maintains warehouse engineering standards, drawings, tools, and documentation across assigned facilities.
- Provides technical direction, coaching, and development to junior OPEX team members.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
- Five or more years of relevant experience in warehouse engineering, industrial engineering, distribution design, slotting, supply chain engineering, or a comparable operational role required.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, industrial engineering principles, material flow, and distribution design.
- Demonstrated experience with warehouse slotting, layout optimization, storage systems, and capacity planning.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or comparable warehouse or facility layout software.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate operational data into practical warehouse improvements.
- Ability to develop and interpret capacity, labor, productivity, throughput, and space-utilization models.
- Demonstrated proficiency in structured problem-solving and corrective-action methods.
- Ability to develop technical recommendations and business cases and lead projects from analysis through implementation and sustainment.
- Strong project management, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to influence Operations and cross-functional partners and work effectively across multiple distribution facilities.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with labor-management systems, engineered labor standards, warehouse management systems, operational master data, or warehouse automation preferred.
- Experience with racking systems, warehouse capacity modeling, or new-product/new-part setup processes preferred.
- Physical Requirement: Ability to regularly work within active warehouse environments, including extended walking and standing. Capability to lift up to 50
