About the Role

Material Handlers are integral to the success of our business, starting the process by pulling, packing, and wrapping metal bar, sheet, plate, and tube for customer pickup in our will-call department.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of materials, material locations, and processing capabilities.
• Safely locate and identify materials and products using material handling equipment such as forklifts, side loaders, and cherry pickers.
• Verify the size of materials and products using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and the established color-coding system.
• Understand and properly use “Heat” and “Lot” numbers for identifying and handling materials.
• Count materials on site and enter them into the cycle counter report.
• Identify discrepancies between inventory listings and actual stock quantities.
• Determine causes of inventory discrepancies, correct them, and adjust inventory records.
• Verify and update material locations in the IMS business system.
• Assist other personnel in locating materials and products.
• Help locate materials to fill backorders.
• Provide basic training for new associates following established company procedures and document participation as needed.
• Interact and communicate with customers and associates in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
• Use the IMS business system to identify committed material as “filled” or “not filled.”
• Communicate, document, and report all inventory discrepancies, including damaged material and misplaced items, to supervisors.
• Identify and remove obsolete material from inventories.
• Complete and submit applicable forms and reports for non-conforming material.
• Immediately report unsafe conditions to the Floor Supervisor, Warehouse Manager, or acting supervisor.
• Follow all company safety rules and regulations.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety in the warehouse and related work areas.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills

• Proficient math skills, proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Proficiency in operating modern desktop computers and related software.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite.
• Proficiency in utilizing IMS business systems.
• Excellent verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
• Safe and courteous driving of company vehicles in compliance with all laws and regulations.
• Operate vehicles and loading machinery, including forklifts, side loaders, scissor lifts, cherry pickers, and overhead cranes.
• Properly operate basic measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures, converting between metric and English measurements when required.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years or older.
• 6 months to 1 year of experience in material handling, preferably in a metal manufacturing environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
