About the role
This is a cross-functional warehouse position that includes receiving, shipping, and order picking duties.
Responsibilities
- Read shipping orders or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
- Sort and place received materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence (size, type, color, or product code).
- Operate tier truck or use hand-truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
- Assemble customer orders from stock and place orders on pallets or shelves; mark materials with identifying information.
- Open crates and other containers; unpack and examine incoming shipments, route items to departments, reject damaged items, record shortages, and correspond with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
- Adjust errors and complaints; record amounts of materials or items received or distributed.
- Compare identifying information and count, weigh, or measure items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
- Use computer to enter records; compile worksheets or tickets from customer specifications.
- Insert items into containers, affix shipping labels on packed cartons, or stencil identifying shipping information on cartons.
- Nail covers on crates, bind containers with metal tape, post weights and shipping charges, and affix postage.
- Pull stock according to FIFO (first in, first out) for production orders using a handheld device, pack into boxes and on pallets or crates.
- Deliver material to the production floor, placing it in the appropriate areas accurately and safely according to the date on the production order.
- Control inventory material and check accuracy of counts.
- Ensure warehouse safety and cleanliness by using protective safety equipment, operating machinery safely, and performing necessary cleaning tasks.
- Learn to read and verify packing labels and lists, unload pallets of materials, and inspect materials for damage.
- Provide support for all other functions in the warehouse as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; two to three years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short memos, and interpret documents such as safety rules and operating instructions.
- Experience with scan guns, forklifts (sit-down, stand-up, or both), and all areas of shipping.
- Beginner to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Basic computer knowledge, math skills, and scale use.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Forklift certification (stand-up and sit-down); Micro Matic training available onsite.
- Knowledge of warehouse and manufacturing principles preferred.
- 1–2 years of warehouse experience preferred.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, and feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, talk, hear, and lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Work Environment
- Frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions.
- Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
- Moderate noise level in the work environment.
- Safety glasses and shoes are required when actively working on the production floor and warehouse.
