Warehouse Area Manager
About the role
The Area Manager plays a critical leadership role in overseeing warehouse operations, driving team performance, and ensuring production goals are consistently met. This role is primarily focused on leadership, decision-making, and team management, with less than 50% of time spent in direct production work.
Role Purpose
The Area Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of warehouse operations and direct supervision of assigned teams. This role ensures operational efficiency, high-quality standards, and workforce performance through leadership, coaching, and data-driven decision-making. The Area Manager operates with a high degree of autonomy, making real-time decisions related to staffing, workflow, and performance while escalating only when necessary.

Key Responsibilities
- Operations & Process Ownership
- Own production processes and operational outcomes for assigned team(s)
- Provide leadership and direction across functional areas such as breakdown, laundry, picking, tailoring, packing, and shipping
- Independently oversee day-to-day operations, making real-time decisions to meet production targets
- Manage staffing, workflow prioritization, and labor allocation
- Collaborate with Warehouse Manager(s) to refine workflows and improve efficiency
- Ensure consistent adherence to SOPs, safety, and quality standards
Team Leadership & People Management
- Directly supervise at least two full-time employees on an ongoing basis
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and development to team members
- Deliver formal performance feedback and contribute to performance reviews
- Address performance concerns and initiate or support disciplinary actions
- Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement
- Develop employees to improve performance and prepare for advancement opportunities
Hiring & Talent Management
- Actively participate in hiring processes, including interviewing and evaluating candidates
- Provide recommendations on hiring, promotions, and terminations that are relied upon in final decisions
- Support onboarding and integration of new team members
- Build and maintain a strong talent pipeline within the operation
Performance Management & Accountability
- Measure and manage operational performance using data and KPIs
- Drive accountability for productivity, quality, and efficiency goals
- Identify performance gaps and implement corrective actions
- Ensure accurate reporting and tracking of operational metrics
Continuous Improvement
- Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements
- Partner cross-functionally to resolve operational challenges
- Leverage data and technology to improve decision-making and outcomes
- Promote a mindset of continuous improvement across the team

Requirements
- Proven leadership experience in a fast-paced environment with direct supervision responsibilities
- Experience managing employee performance, including coaching, feedback, and disciplinary actions
- Experience participating in hiring processes, including interviewing and candidate evaluation
- 2+ years of warehouse operations experience or equivalent in logistics/fulfillment
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team and drive operational results
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proven track record of developing employees and improving performance
- Ability to make decisions related to staffing, workflow, and prioritization
- Comfortable using technology and operational systems
- Able to perform physical tasks as needed (lifting, bending, etc.)
- Able to lift up to 20 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Reliable transportation
- Able to pass a criminal background check
