Key Responsibilities
- Operate a box truck, and transit van safely and efficiently while following all traffic laws and organizational policies.
- Load and unload cargo, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage.
- Secure cargo properly to prevent shifting during transit.
- Transport goods to designated locations on a schedule.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any issues.
- Maintain accurate and complete records. Verify and complete delivery documentation, such as donation logs and invoices.
- Provide quality customer service; develop and maintain rapport with donors, agencies, and volunteers to foster continued support and professional working relationships.
- Adhere to safety regulations including proper lifting techniques.
- Report mechanical issues to supervisor for repairs.
- Assist in general warehouse duties, such as loading and unloading vehicles, when not actively involved in driving duties.
- Operate and maintain warehouse equipment in a safe and prudent manner. (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, etc.).
- Keep the facility and grounds clean. Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
Qualifications & Skills
- Must be familiar with the local service area including Morgan City, Terrebonne, Lafourche and Grand Isle.
- Ability to work steadily and independently with minimum supervision and to follow standard procedures.
- Able to safely exert force and/or lift or move up to 50 pounds frequently and heavier items occasionally.
- Walk, sit, squat, bend, twist and reach at various heights above and below shoulder level.
- Must have basic math skills and the ability to read, comprehend and follow instructions.
- Basic computer knowledge helpful to complete electronic timecards, access email and complete online forms.
- Must successfully complete Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux Safe Environment Program.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain good relationships with people of various ages, education, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience driving a box truck or similar size vehicle.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Forklift certification a plus or experience operating a forklift with willingness to obtain certification.
