About the role

Globalstar pioneered personal safety by introducing its SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger in 2007. Today, leveraging its low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation, Globalstar reliably connects and protects assets, transmits key operational data, and saves lives – from any location – for consumers, industrial companies and government agencies in over 120 countries. With a portfolio that includes SPOT GPS messengers, next-generation IoT products and modems, and cloud-based telematics solutions, Globalstar’s cost effective satellite-powered innovations give users visibility and intelligence for improving safety and operational efficiencies.

This role provides technical mentorship to network engineering staff and has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for end-to-end WAN design, implementation, support, and documentation. Platforms include firewalls, routers, and Layer 2 switching related to SD-WAN, point-to-point, and WAVE telecom circuits.
  • Own BGP routing design and operations at scale — peering, transit, communities, traffic engineering, and route policy across carrier, cloud, and internal domains.
  • Lead SD-WAN architecture and operations (Cato Networks), including site onboarding, policy design, overlay/underlay routing preference, and integration with security controls.
  • Traffic routing, security, bandwidth, and QoS control on the WAN network.
  • Architect and manage cloud interconnect via Equinix Fabric and direct connections to AWS and other cloud providers.
  • Design and support data center fabric technologies including EVPN/VXLAN.
  • Engineering of diverse access fiber plant at ground stations and demarc extensions, including review of carrier KMZ route data to ensure physical path diversity.
  • Own network observability and SLA assurance using Kentik and related monitoring platforms — flow analytics, synthetic testing, capacity trending, anomaly detection, and customer-facing SLA reporting; troubleshoot WAN-related issues to rapid resolution.
  • Maintain WAN configuration and backups of WAN edge devices.
  • Test and turn-up of new WAN circuits with telco and ground station staff.
  • Partner with cybersecurity on segmentation, zero trust initiatives, and compliance-driven network controls (NIST 800-171, SOC 2).
  • Produce and maintain architecture documentation, standards, and runbooks.
  • Lead vendor and carrier relationships: circuit procurement, escalations, and technology evaluation.
  • Interface with IT, other network engineers, and other departments as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Networking, Computer Science, or an equivalent Engineering degree.
  • CCIE (Routing and Switching), CCNP (Enterprise), or equivalent skill required.
  • At least ten (10) years of progressive experience in WAN engineering, traffic routing, and WAN security, with at least three (3) years in an architect or lead design role.
  • This position requires access to technology and data subject to U.S. export control regulations (ITAR/EAR). Candidates must be U.S. persons as defined under these regulations (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual) or otherwise eligible for required export authorizations.

Skills

  • WAN design: Expert experience with WAN architectures (MPLS, VPN, SD-WAN, MP-BGP, DIA, DWDM/wave services).
  • Routing: Expert-level BGP — route reflectors, communities, path manipulation, multihoming, and production troubleshooting; Cisco IOS-XE/NX-OS at an expert level, multi-vendor experience (Arista, Juniper) a plus.
  • Data center fabric: Hands-on EVPN/VXLAN design and operations.
  • Network security: Firewall configurations, ACLs, segmentation, and threat mitigation.
  • Cloud connectivity: AWS VPC/Transit Gateway/Direct Connect and interconnection platforms such as Equinix Fabric; familiarity with Azure and Google Cloud connectivity options.
  • Monitoring and observability: Experience operating network monitoring/observability platforms (Kentik strongly preferred; NetFlow/sFlow/IPFIX analytics, SNMP, streaming telemetry, synthetic monitoring) in an environment with contractual SLAs.
  • Automation: Familiarity with network automation and configuration tools (Ansible, Python, NetBox, etc.).
  • Optical: Has used leased wave technologies and able to design and turn up associated systems.
  • Facility design: Understanding of data center design principles, power, cooling, and space planning.
  • Redundancy and resilience: Ability to design and implement redundant systems, including diverse facility entrances and carrier circuit diversity. Familiar with reading and interpreting KMZs of routes and ability to negotiate their best practice.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work with cross-functional teams (IT, facilities, vendors).
  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to adapt to changing technical requirements and industry trends.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proactive: Anticipate and mitigate potential network issues.

Benefits

  • Work/Life Balance: Paid Time Off, Paid Holidays.
  • Financial Benefits: 401(k) Plan with Company Match, Employee Stock Purchase Program, Voluntary and Company Paid Group Life Insurance, Short- and Long-Term Disability Insurance, Medical FSA, Dependent Care, Competitive Salaries.
  • Health & Wellness: Health Insurance, Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, Employee Assistance Program, Comprehensive and Interactive Wellness Program.

Physical Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
  • Willingness and ability to work after regularly scheduled hours as needed.
  • Ability to sit at a desk for prolonged periods working on a computer (4 to 8 hours).
  • Ability to operate the equipment used for the job.
  • Ability to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.

Bonus

  • Cato Networks SD-WAN/SASE deployment or operations experience.
  • Experience optimizing networking for latency and loss mitigation.
  • Comprehension and awareness of optical transport platforms and their nuances when considering IP services.
  • Familiarity with data center and edge network technologies and services, including how to enable HA, traffic distribution, and peering in these settings.
  • Experience in satellite, telecom carrier, or other uptime-critical service provider environments.
  • Experience operating in regulated/compliance-driven environments (NIST 800-171, ITAR/EAR, SOC 2).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact clearly and concisely with all departments and levels of management.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention-to-detail.
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with NetSuite.
