About the role

The purpose of this role is to perform loading and unloading of trucks and outside carriers, ensure all shipments are properly stored in the warehouse, and pick orders from warehouse inventory as directed by customers.

Responsibilities

  • Loading and unloading truck/trailers safely and efficiently using proper procedures, including outside carrier equipment
  • Picking and moving items weighing from 1 lb to 50 lbs or more multiple times
  • Ensuring all documentation is properly completed
  • Coordinating with dispatch and sales to resolve any discrepancies
  • Properly storing all inbound loads in the correct warehouse location
  • Ensuring all shipments are properly marked before storing/picking
  • Maintaining the warehouse area with orderly stacking and good housekeeping
  • Spotting trailers to maintain efficient yard organization and flow of equipment into the warehouse
  • Coordinating paperwork with drivers after normal dispatch operations are finished for the day
  • General maintenance of the area surrounding the warehouse
  • Ensuring trailers are swept clean of any debris when empty
  • Ensuring all shipments are correctly staged and loaded properly
  • Processing outbound freight and cross-dock freight as necessary
  • Operating Stand-up Reach Forklifts, Cherry Pickers, and some sit-down forklift work
  • Following all safety procedures at all times
  • Building pallets and breaking down stock
  • Working in a fast-paced warehouse environment

Requirements

  • 1 year of Fork Lift driving experience
  • Certified Fork Lift License
  • High School Diploma or general education diploma (GED) preferred
  • Ability to communicate, read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers

Skills

  • Good communication, problem resolution, and people skills
  • Ability to maintain orderly operation of the warehouse
  • Mathematical skills, including ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables
  • Knowledge of Business Operating Systems, Internet software, Word Processing, and Spreadsheet software

Physical Demands

The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, activate phone systems utilizing keyboards and buttons, and be articulate and comfortable speaking in front of others. The employee will regularly work in an indoor/office environment and be required to sit and/or use repetitive hand motion. The employee will frequently be required to talk, hear, stand, and walk, and must be able to work in excess of continuous 8 hours when required.

Work Environment

The employee will occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment will range from quiet to moderately loud.
