About the role

The VP of Quality and Patient Safety is responsible for governing the following functions: Clinical Effectiveness, Performance Improvement and Decision Support, Data Management, Infection Control, Patient Experience, Patient Safety, Joint Commission and other regulatory standards while working collaboratively with other senior leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, oversees, and executes upon the clinical, strategic, and operational quality and safety priorities for the entire organization.
  • Governs the implementation of key clinical quality and safety initiatives.
  • Develops, amends, and monitors an effective Change Management and Performance Improvement Model which includes education of key constituents.
  • Identifies obstacles and implements change to the successful utilization of quality improvement processes.
  • Governs efforts in the transformation of the patient experience to foster a patient and family centered culture and works in partnership with all departments across the organization to assess and support our mission, vision and values.
  • Engages physicians, APPs, allied health professionals and trainees to drive improved outcomes in hospital, ambulatory, community and academic setting.
  • Governs and supports the efforts to develop a culture of safety with the goal of becoming a highly reliable organization with a goal of zero harm.
  • Establishes quality management process to include timely and accurate capture of data that is valid and effectively analyzed, identification and response to statistically significant trends, accurate benchmarking, development and implementation of clinical pathways and protocols with physician, nursing and other clinical input resulting in best practices.
  • Governs and sets direction to achieve an exceptional patient experience.
  • Collaborates with other leaders to assure the Strategic Plan incorporates effective strategies to advance Patient Experience.
  • Provides support and input to the hospital and medical peer review program.
  • Provides ongoing direction and oversight of the Vizient Clinical Benchmarking system to assure the benefits of the system are used to its fullest potential.
  • Actively participates in professional associations and system committees to expand/improve quality initiatives and outcomes.
  • Collaborates with ambulatory departments for quality and patient safety needs.
  • Works collaboratively with system Quality and Patient Safety leadership to identify and support system wide strategies and initiatives.
  • Assists in the Strategic Planning process.
  • Collaborates with other senior leaders to set direction as it relates to Population Health and Value Based payments/programs.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: Master’s degree in pharmacy, Nursing, or other Health related field, Nurse Practitioner, or Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from an accredited medical school Currently licensed in the field of related education.
  • EXPERIENCE: 8 years management experience addressing quality issues 5 years’ experience developing, leading, and educating hospital wide quality initiatives 5 years’ experience in trend analysis, benchmarking, statistical operations, and process improvement
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Recent and relevant clinical background in acute care setting Experience in the use of utilization management systems, including database management systems and spreadsheet analysis Experience in teaching hospital or prior quality improvement role
