About the role

The VP, Product Management - Payments is a critical product leadership role responsible for defining and executing the product vision for Billtrust’s payments capabilities. You will partner closely with the SVP of Payments, who owns the end-to-end payments business, serving as the product counterpart who translates business strategy and customer needs into a differentiated payments roadmap.

Responsibilities

  • Define the multi-year product vision and roadmap for Billtrust’s payments platform, spanning payment acceptance, processing, network connectivity, and reconciliation.
  • Develop the strategy for growing buyer-side engagement within the Billtrust Payment Network, deepening network effects that create durable competitive advantage across the supplier-buyer payment relationship.
  • Leverage AI-powered market analysis tools to identify emerging payment trends, regulatory shifts, and competitive threats, translating insights into decisive product bets.
  • Partner with the CPO to align the payments roadmap with Billtrust's broader platform strategy and customer growth objectives.
  • Lead a team of product managers across the payments portfolio, setting clear goals, cultivating AI-first working habits, and driving accountability for outcome-based delivery.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Design to translate complex payments domain requirements into well-scoped, technically sound product specs.
  • Establish and monitor key product health metrics — payment success rates, authorization performance, time-to-settle — using AI dashboards to surface issues before customers notice.
  • Engage directly with enterprise customers, payments networks, and banking partners to gather deep domain insight and validate product direction.
  • Represent the payments product externally at industry events, analyst briefings, and strategic partner conversations, positioning Billtrust as the leader in B2B payments.
  • Champion the voice of the customer internally, ensuring payment friction points are surfaced, prioritized, and resolved with urgency.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate with Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing to develop compelling go-to-market strategies for new payments capabilities. Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Finance to navigate the regulatory landscape — PCI DSS, card network rules, ACH guidelines — and build compliant-by-design products. Align roadmap cadence and shared requirements with the Cash Application product team, ensuring payment data — including remittance detail and payment method signals — flows cleanly into downstream matching and reconciliation workflows. Partner across Billtrust’s Platform and Software product teams to ensure payments capabilities are well-integrated into the broader product platform, shared services are leveraged effectively, and roadmap dependencies are surfaced and resolved early.
  • Drive AI adoption across the payments product team, with specific focus on payments-relevant applications: exception handling in cash application, authorization optimization, fraud signal detection, and remittance data enrichment.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in payments product management, with deep domain expertise across payment methods, processing networks, and B2B payment workflows.
  • Demonstrated track record leading payments product teams at a fintech, payments processor, or enterprise software company.
  • Fluency in payments infrastructure — card rails, ACH, RTP, virtual cards, network tokenization — and the ability to translate technical complexity into customer value.
  • Experience setting AI strategy and championing AI-first culture at scale; proven ability to embed AI tooling into product team workflows.
  • Strong executive presence with experience influencing C-suite stakeholders, strategic partners, and enterprise customers.
  • History of delivering payments products at scale, with ownership of key metrics like authorization rates, processing costs, and payment conversion.
  • Experience in B2B payments environments where settlement timing, remittance data quality, and buyer-supplier payment terms shape product decisions — not just payment volume or conversion rate optimization.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on product experience in accounts receivable, Order to Cash, or collections workflows — including familiarity with how payment method, remittance detail, and settlement speed affect downstream cash application and reconciliation.
  • Familiarity with payment compliance frameworks including PCI DSS, Nacha rules, and card network operating regulations.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., LLM-based research agents, AI roadmap tools) to accelerate product discovery and stakeholder communication.
  • MBA or equivalent strategic business experience.
