About the Role

The Vice President of Finance is responsible for the strategic leadership and operational performance of financial functions across the orthopedic hospital system and ambulatory operations. Reporting to the CEO, the VP of Finance directs financial planning, reporting, and operational finance functions while partnering with clinical and administrative leaders to drive fiscal performance, margin improvement, and long-term sustainability in a complex, highly regulated environment. Key departments—Finance, Accounting, Materials Management, Information Technology, and Contracts—will report to this experienced leader. The high-performing leader must be capable of building a modern, data-driven finance team that supports long-term organizational growth while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to create success. The candidate must be comfortable with the evolving technology landscape and its critical role in healthcare transformation.

Responsibilities

• Financial Leadership & Strategy
  • Develop and implement financial strategies that align with the health system’s long-term goals.
  • Provide leadership in financial planning, forecasting, and risk management.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance financial performance and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to support business development, strategic initiatives, and capital investment decisions.
• Financial Operations & Performance Management
  • Oversee financial reporting, budgeting, revenue cycle management, and cost containment initiatives.
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to support decision-making.
  • Ensure strong financial controls and compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Manage payer contract negotiations and reimbursement strategies to maximize revenue.
• Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, including Medicare and Medicaid guidelines.
  • Monitor financial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Work with internal and external auditors to ensure compliance with financial reporting standards.
• Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead and mentor multiple departments, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Build and develop a high-performing team to support successful finance and operations components.
  • Promote collaboration across departments to improve financial processes and patient care efficiency.
• Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise the Director of Budget, Director of Finance, Director of Information Technology, Director of Materials Management, Contracts Administrator, BioMed Lead, and other staff as deemed necessary by the CEO.
  • Function as a coach and mentor to staff.
  • Participate in and/or support the employment process in conjunction with the Human Resources Department.
  • Submit requests for staffing needs on a thorough and timely basis, securing all necessary approvals.
  • Participate in the screening and interviewing process.
  • Support the orientation of newly hired staff members.
  • Provide and/or oversee the training of newly appointed staff members.
  • Develop and/or maintain ongoing training programs to enhance skills, knowledge, and productivity.
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff to maintain a work environment that promotes creative development and meets performance expectations.
  • Establish performance expectations, monitor and measure performance, and address concerns or weaknesses.
  • Ensure staff work efficiently, accurately, and productively.
  • Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures, initiating corrective action for noncompliance as needed.
  • Make decisions and take actions essential to the daily operation of the work area(s).
  • Maintain or oversee the maintenance of necessary supplies and research major expenditures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• CPA, CFA, or HFMA certification is a plus.
• 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in healthcare or hospital finance.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare financial regulations, reimbursement models, and revenue cycle management.
• Proven track record of driving financial performance and cost-saving initiatives.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
• Experience in managing large-scale budgets in a multi-hospital system preferred.
• Knowledge of value-based care and population health financial strategies preferred.
• Familiarity with healthcare ERP and financial management systems (e.g., Epic, Oracle, Workday) preferred.
