VP of Field Operations, 2 Hour Learning - $200,000/year USD

Engineering$100/hrFull-time
What You Will Be Doing
- Executing scheduled physical audits at Northeast campuses against documented protocols for cleanliness, HVAC function, safety compliance, security systems, signage, landscaping, furniture condition, and tour-readiness—then converting observations into confirmed corrective action
- Responding to facility incidents and urgent requests, coordinating contractor response, and verifying resolution before closing tickets (urgent within 24 hours, standard within 1 week)
- Overseeing regional vendor compliance with service-level agreements, terminating consistently underperforming contractors, renegotiating contract terms, and conducting direct accountability discussions on quality and pricing
- Establishing a weekly operational cadence with Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists to ensure uniform execution across all locations, eliminating reliance on ad hoc problem-solving
- Directing major capital improvement projects (HVAC replacement, interior upgrades, landscaping overhauls, AV/network installations) within timeline and budget parameters while minimizing student impact
- Documenting enterprise-wide operational standards and AI-supported procurement frameworks (leveraging ticketing platforms, IoT/predictive maintenance tools, and centralized vendor management) to ensure consistency across all existing and future campuses
- Delivering concise weekly written summaries covering regional facility quality, vendor metrics, escalated issues, and capital expenditure tracking
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Operating remotely through dashboards — this role demands consistent physical presence at the Manhattan campus and 20–40% travel across regional locations (CT, MA, PA)
- Leading new campus design or managing ground-up construction projects — capital development is managed by a separate function
- Defining company-wide procurement policy without field validation — your standards emerge from direct site observation
- Working within clean organizational hierarchies with direct authority over all contributors — you will establish accountability through documentation, written communication, and insistence on specific vendor commitments
- Treating "tour-ready during leadership visits only" as acceptable — persistent problems are investigated for root causes, not repeatedly re-submitted
- Defaulting to reactive crisis management — the audit schedule and predictive maintenance systems are designed to surface failures before they generate complaints
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain every Northeast region campus as safe, premium, and inspection-ready on a daily basis
Basic Requirements
- Located in New York City or within commuting range, able to work primarily from the Manhattan campus with 20–40% travel throughout the region
- Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
- 5+ years leading multi-location facilities, regional operations, hospitality management, retail operations, or educational facility operations
- Documented success managing vendor-delivered services for quality, cost control, and SLA performance across distributed sites
- Hands-on experience addressing urgent facility failures (safety hazards, HVAC breakdowns, security issues, cleanliness lapses) with measurable impact on customer experience
- Consistent written operational discipline: issue tracking, escalation documentation, vendor correspondence, weekly regional performance summaries
- Working knowledge of contemporary operations platforms (work order systems, IoT/predictive maintenance technologies, AI-enabled procurement or planning tools)
Nice-to-have Requirements
- Regional operations leadership in premium hospitality, high-end retail, private K–12 education, or healthcare systems serving demanding clientele
- Experience building or restoring a regional operations framework that previously depended on individual heroics instead of documented processes
- History of terminating low-performing vendors and developing a reliable regional contractor network
- Experience directing capital improvement work (HVAC systems, AV/networking infrastructure, landscaping projects, interior renovations) in active, customer-facing facilities
- Familiarity with AI-driven operations environments where automated playbooks, dashboards, and predictive tools handle routine tasks and allow personnel to concentrate on decision-making
