About the role
Bethany Christian Services is a nonprofit organization that supports families, fosters children, and assists refugees. The VP of Business Development plays a crucial role in securing funding for these programs.
Responsibilities
- Lead, direct, and manage a team of direct reports, including selection, hiring, performance evaluation, and training;
- Manage and oversee Bethany’s grant program process to ensure sustainability, growth, and funding;
- Acquire public grant funding for all Bethany programming;
- Strategically plan, manage directionality, and develop action steps for the grants team and senior directors;
- Monitor, evaluate, and report regularly on the progress of revenue generation initiatives and make recommendations for improvement;
- Provide department updates and reporting, including board reports;
- Develop the grant team to project program growth, expansion planning, and collaborate with senior directors on action planning;
- Oversee the Senior Program Manager and Executive Assistant;
- Ensure the weekly and monthly reports are produced in a high level manner;
- Write high-quality, aligned proposals;
- Serve as a liaison with other HQ and branch directors;
- Execute the communication plan related to business development strategies;
- Ensure documentation of best practices and content expertise;
- Track and own external MOUs;
- Collaborate on program compliance and contract management;
- Ensure the integrity and validity of external-facing written representations;
- Coordinate collaboration needs between business development leadership and donor engagement;
- Create logic models and maintain up-to-date measurements;
- Write and develop proposals for entities like ORR, HHS, USAID, UNHCR, PRM, and others;
- Communicate with relevant constituents within the organization;
- Ensure creation of federal funding opportunities meets established goals within Bethany annually;
- Build and maintain Bethany’s brand awareness and engagement within the grant portfolio.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s level degree in a related field of study from an accredited college;
- Master’s level degree in a related field of study from an accredited college, strongly preferred;
- Broad knowledge of basic principles, concepts, and methodology of fundraising;
- At least three (3) years of managerial experience;
- At least five (5) to seven (7) years of progressive experience in nonprofit administration and/or fundraising with a focus on writing technical grants;
- Experience in child/family welfare agency is a plus;
- Demonstrated success in securing federal funds while serving in a grant writing capacity;
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and strategy implementation skills;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Highly organized with a strong attention to detail;
- Ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders to gain support and generate action to accomplish goals;
- Reliable with time-sensitive deadlines and tasks;
- Confidentiality and integrity;
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to change;
- A commitment to the highest-level standards of professionalism and fundraising best practices;
- Computer skills sufficient to perform essential functions including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
- Valid driver’s license with at least 3 years of driving experience in the U.S. to operate a vehicle on behalf of Bethany;
- Pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check and maintain a reliable vehicle with proof of adequate coverage;
- Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries;
- Subscription to and integration of the agency Statement of Faith, Mission Statement, and Commitment to Unity.
