VP, National Field Underwriting Lead

Responsibilities

  • Oversee enterprise-wide field underwriting operations, ensuring consistent underwriting strategy, execution, and quality across all regions.
  • Drive profitability by managing underwriting performance, portfolio mix, pricing adequacy, and risk selection across the entire field organization.
  • Ensure adherence to BTU underwriting guidelines, appetite, authority levels, and regulatory requirements across all field offices.
  • Partner with actuarial, claims, and risk control to guide underwriting decisions and maintain alignment with BTU’s technology-centric risk approach.
  • Lead national sales and distribution strategies that support BTU’s specialized positioning as a global technology insurance provider.
  • Strengthen and expand producer and broker relationships across the company’s footprint.
  • Oversee enterprise-wide delivery of agency training, product education, and field marketing initiatives.
  • Represent BTU in the technology insurance marketplace as a subject-matter expert in underwriting for technology-exposed businesses.
  • Develop and implement consistent underwriting processes, workflows, and quality assurance standards across all field teams.
  • Conduct regular underwriting audits and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workflow efficiency and quality.
  • Ensure strong alignment between field operations and corporate underwriting strategy.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop field underwriting staff at all levels across the enterprise.
  • Promote BTU’s culture of innovation, specialization, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Oversee staffing, succession planning, and capability building across field underwriting functions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 10+ years of multi-line underwriting and marketing experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading underwriting teams at a regional, national, or enterprise level.
  • Deep knowledge of property, casualty, professional liability, and cyber coverages for technology-focused businesses.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent leadership and communication abilities with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
  • Working knowledge of underwriting systems and digital workflows.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Base Salary Range: $200k - $275k
