Description
The VP, Accounting is responsible for all accounting operations, finance and investment accounting functions, directly compiles consolidated financial statements, oversees CUSO reporting, budgets, and financial planning and analytics. The role partners closely with the investment and treasury teams to support policy compliance and funds management functions.
This full-time position is primarily work from home and is based out of our Greensboro, NC location. Candidate must be willing to commute to Greensboro, NC to meet required onsite duties and responsibilities, such as attending mandatory meetings, required training or cultural events in person.
Financial Operations and Reporting
- Responsible for all financial accounting functions for Vizo Financial and related organizations, including operational accounting and investment accounting.
- Maintain accurate, GAAP-compliant reporting of all financial data to the board, management, regulatory agencies, member-owners and the public.
- This includes accurately producing all monthly and quarterly reporting on a timely basis.
- Responsible for all month-end closing functions.
- Supervise and review accounting reconciliations to ensure accurate records of the organization’s finance function within established deadlines.
- Manages recording of financial data and reconciliations for CUSOs in which Vizo Financial has an ownership interest.
Compliance, Controls, and Audit
- Ensure all financial accounting procedures and internal controls are in place and regularly reviewed to minimize the risk of losses and fraud, making adjustments as needed to maintain both efficiency and control.
- Ensure all financial accounting policies, procedures and reporting comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Attend continuing education to stay current with changes in accounting standards, technology and best practices.
- Manage the preparation and coordination for financial internal audits, CPA audits, and NCCUD/NCUA examinations.
- Work with auditors and examiners throughout the year, providing documents and support as requested, and proactively resolving any findings.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Financial Planning and Analysis
- Aids the CFO and management team with analyzing financial information and forecasting future financial conditions and performance.
- Performs complex statistical analysis such as core deposit analysis and cashflow modeling.
- Develops and maintains databases, designs spreadsheets and templates utilizing advanced Excel skills.
- Using data analytic tools and solutions to provide insight and information into the operations of the organization and seek ways to better utilize company resources.
- Initiates and participates in process improvement projects to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Budgeting
- Directs the preparation of the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Controller of Accounting Operations.
- Works with CFO to finalize the annual budget and narrative for presentation to the board of directors.
- Monitors and analyzes budget performance throughout the year.
- Provides status updates to the CFO, as well as to department chiefs.
Requirements
- Seeking candidates with: Bachelor’s degree (BS) in accounting, finance, or related field (Masters' a plus); and four-to-ten years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and finance-based functions.
- Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.
- Advance knowledge of financial and accounting software, word processing software, spreadsheet software, asset/liability software, database software, internet and other accounting software.
Other Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Prolog GL (FiServ) Experience.
- Financial Institution Experience.
- Understanding of Investment Accounting, and GAAP.
- Audit and/or Financial Statement Preparation Experience.
- Detail Oriented.
- Team-Driven.
- Analytical.
- Familiarity with Tableau or Data Visualization Software a plus.
