Volunteer: Website Accessibility Audit & Remediation (WCAG 2.1 AA)
About the role
APILO is migrating from WordPress to Webflow and needs a volunteer to audit the new site for WCAG 2.1 AA compliance and implement fixes. A baseline audit of the current WordPress site identified recurring issues including linked images missing alt text, missing form labels, empty links, 22 instances of very low color contrast, and broken heading structure.
Many of our clients are immigrants and limited-English-proficient community members who may rely on assistive technologies, making accessibility a mission-critical requirement for reaching the people we serve. The volunteer should also verify that language attributes are correctly implemented to support screen readers and assistive technologies across all language versions of our multilingual site.
We're looking to partner on a WCAG 2.1 AA compliance audit of the new Webflow site with a written report identifying gaps, prioritized recommendations, and, where possible, direct remediation. Success means the site passes a WAVE audit with no errors or contrast failures, and we have documentation of what was reviewed and addressed.
Responsibilities
- Conduct a WCAG 2.1 AA compliance audit of APILO’s new Webflow site.
- Provide a written report identifying accessibility gaps and prioritized recommendations.
- Implement fixes where possible to address issues such as missing alt text, form labels, empty links, color contrast, and heading structure.
- Verify correct implementation of language attributes for multilingual support.
- Ensure the site passes a WAVE audit with no errors or contrast failures.
- Document all reviewed and addressed accessibility improvements.
